So while you must indeed stay at home to protect yourself from the endless imminent dangers lurking on the outside, you must always remember that there are also many, many imminent dangers lurking inside your home as well. So while at home, you simply must stay put. Do not do anything. Certainly no tool or ladder usage. No lifting (hernias). No cooking (cuts/burns/fires). No showering (slips/fractured skulls). No watching anything too exciting on TV (heart attacks/strokes). No poker (fights/lacerations/fractures). And for god's sake, no handling of knives, swords, or firearms of any type. Oh yeah, and always keep your eyes open for the elusive brown recluse spider.

So many accidents everywhere! I get you--it's definitely risky to go out of the house (although accidents inside the house are also a thing LOL). What I do is make sure I am updated with latest news/accidents/police arrest within my area when I go. Trick here is to listen to police radio (apps for your mobile phone are available now, see RRD.org's list for reference). But I got a more legit radio that keeps me on loop. It doesn't protect me for accidents, but I like having that peace of mind when I go out and drive around.

but how do you use it? if you hear a report that there's a mugging nearby, shouldn't it be safer? the mugger is busy at that moment, that's the moment to walk confidently, you know? but i feel like if i heard about a mugging a block away i'd just want to stay inside my house.

that being said, most things make me want to stay inside my house, so i suppose i'm biased. but i would like to know more about how you use this more legit police radio to leave the house

No, I don't use it so I could leave the house. It's on my car, so when I drive around, I can be updated about any accidents/police situations (even fire sometimes) that I could avoid.

And yeah, like I said, I get why you would like to stay inside your house more often. It's much, much safer.
