in the long run everyone lands on the squares an equal amount of times, so whatever properties you buy doesn't matter in the long run since someone'll land on them anyway.
and then the math comes in, which I can't be bothered to do right now.

It's exactly the same as poker: if you make better decisions than your opponent, you will be +EV. So no.

I think is like poker in the sense that you can mortgage some properties to build some houses or hotels, or etc... those are the skills, but u don't have control over the dices, such as poker you dont have control on the outcome of the cards.

A lot of poker is based on making decisions based on speculative information. Yes, the cards are random, but the decisions you make are still made based on incomplete information.

In Monopoly all the information you need to make a decision is known, the only thing uncertain is the roll of the dice (and the Chance/Community Chest cards).

It's more like blackjack. As long as you stick to a winning strategy the roll of the dice will average out in the long run. If you and your opponent both play the same strategy equally well, it will be a zero sum game in the long run.

Once you've figured out the optimal way to play the game based on the information you have it's completeley even. Kind of like playing blackjack against a friend instead of against the house (as in ridiculously boring). Unless you can find someone who plays incorrectly, it'll be very close to 50/50.

I think it is possible to have an edge over someone but it is so small it may take hundreds of games to even out the variance.

not true. jail is two squares. i read somewhere long time ago that the lots after jail is best. rolling two dice would make square 7 after jail best imo.

dunno if someone beat me to it.

edit: google is your friend: monopoly

Among improvable properties (properties that can have houses or hotels built on them), the orange set is far superior to any other: It is visited quite often (it is located at a moderate distance after the Jail square), and property costs are relatively cheap, and the prospect of collecting damaging rents without too much investment is excellent.

Trades are where the advantage is gained. Weaker players can be tricked into some pretty dumb trades imo.

it's all about game selection. it does involve a decent amount of skill and it is played for real money just like poker. i've made a decent amount of money playing it.

Isn´t Backgammon considered a skill game? Its played with a dice, too, but a good player can have an edge over an opponent. maybe you could compare it?
