Well, I finally threw in the towel, actually. It was a good run, but the Texas summer is upon us and there is no way for me to live out in that heat. I need air conditioning....even though my job still requires me to go out into the worst of the heat during the day. At least I can be comfortable after work and while sleeping.

So for the last week I was renting a crummy hotel in North Austin. It was properly the ghetto. Every time I went to the store I was approached by homeless crackheads and crack hos. I gave one of the crack hos a cigarette and she followed me halfway home. I had to make a detour so that she wouldn't know where I was staying.

But last night I finally rented a real place. I've got a room in a house with two other guys about my age. They are cool guys, one of them is from India and he works for Dell. The other guy has a cool job but I don't know exactly what it is. But he's a real active guy, does Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and sky diving and all that stuff. If I stay here for a while we might have some good times. I've always wanted to go sky diving.

I really wanted to get my own apartment, but I'm still repairing my credit from some bad decisions. Some day I'm going to buy a piece of land and build my own home. But not in Texas. Definitely further north. Maybe Colorado.

Overall, I'd say it was a pretty good run. I lived in my car for about three months. The hardest parts were finding places to sleep, keeping the car clean, and finding places to wash. I'm sure I didn't take nearly enough showers for modern society's standards. But I didn't get one complaint about smelling bad. Degree turns up the heat so you don't have to. I forget their slogan.

What I'm most looking forward to is being able to cook on a real stove again. And being able to do laundry, but I really didn't mind using laundromats.

So, that's about it. I'm back to being a normal person. I wouldn't really recommend that anyone try going homeless. It's not for everyone and you need to have very little shame.

Here is a picture of my new room. I just moved in last night, so it's got a lot of debris. But the room came with a bed and a dresser and pretty nice flat-screen TV. I don't really watch it, but I'm about to go pick up an HDMI cable.

The only reason I didn't do that is because I have a real job that requires a lot of driving. I couldn't make any money if I drove the RV.

I don't believe I've seen that movie. But Texas is a huge state, I doubt you could characterize it with generalities.

I was not afraid of that. To be honest, my biggest fear while I was out there was being arrested for trespassing or for drinking beer in my car while I was parked.

This came extremely close to happening. But thankfully I was at Walmart when it did happen. Then I bought an RV/marine battery because we are always trying to work on the RV. But I used it to jump my car everytime I had to start. It took a while, but I finally did buy a new battery for my car. Then I almost killed that one when I left my radio playing all night and my phone charging.

maybe im too harsh. it was just so brown, and the downtown and outskirts was pretty dumpy. the riverwalk is a great idea and well done though.

saw a dude get refused entry to the alamo for having a "disrespectful shirt" (had those kind of graffiti-type words in white on a black tee that all the cool kids wear these days).

I stayed at a cheap hotel right next to the Alamo but I didn't go into the tourist facility. I can't believe they turned away someone with cover charge though.

its free to go in to the actual alamo. the thing is they take it REALLY seriously. there are two cops there, and there are a bunch of rules like "remove your hat" etc. honestly, all of texas takes themselves overly seriously, but its kinda in a way that doesnt bother me too much. it is def BIIIG like they say. we drove for one stint (mby 2 hr) and only saw like 2 cars. that is even more desolate than the nevada outback when we were heading to area 51.

Thanks, brah. But fyi, the best place to be homeless is Hawai'i. Never too hot or cold. Maybe a hurricane once every ten years, but it's worth it. You can hide out in a government safe house until it's over.

i guess you get reimbursed for your hotel visits to shower, but something else to consider is getting a state park pass. they have pretty decent shower facilities usually....$60 a year i think...(or just $5 to get in park)
