LOL at everyone criticizing OP. It was obvious to me that he's a ****ing bastard from the title. Think about it for a little. Who the **** tries to suicide by cop? Only a ****ing bastard would do something like that. It's kind of like those freaks who fill their car with gasoline tanks and drive to a busy place, then yell "OMG I'M GOING TO KILL MYSELF" and get a few good souls who will acually try to help killed as well. Do you think the cop will enjoy killing a lunatic? At the very worst you'll ruin his day, but there's a good shot he'll be depressed for a week or a month over it.

Actually, its ALOT more complicated than that. Studies have shown most cops involved in deadly force encounters take years to get over it, if they ever really do. Now, lets talk business. The cop who did this would've immediately been suspended for an indefinite amount of time that, by reasonable estimates and experience, would've been a minimum of four to six months. OTOH, I've seen these IA investigations carry on for over two years before the Officer is cleared.

Then there is the therapy sessions in the meantime, probably a home destroyed because the Officer cannot understand what is happening to him emotionally, so his wife and children sure as hell can't understand what's happening to him, so they leave, he turns to alcohol, and gets fired.

Thats second worst. The worst is when someone who dedicated their life to helping people takes their own life because they can't live with the torment of taking someone elses life.

Most men get more insane (insane to marry a North american cow in the first place) little by little once they say I do...

I feel I need to side with the "eww, the OP makes me feel sleazy" crowd. Expressing an opinion that you were regretful that someone else who is mentally ill and on the ropes didn't get their brains blown out all over the pavement, no matter what the situation, just feels pretty...ick.

Also, I don't understand why the OP hasn't brought legal action against the ex husband for attempted murder, as there is precident in situations like this to have the ex subpoenaed (can't possibly be spelled correctly) and forced to submit to a blood test. Can't see any fathomable way, unless the OP is extremely destitute, which I'm guessing isn't the case, where this wouldn't have happened.

Who wins when a person with mental illness gets their brains blown out? Sucks for their family (I'd imagine that even though the father is 85, he'd still like to have his son's brains intact), and it sucks for the innocent police officer that'd have to live the rest of his life knowing he murdered a sick person. I'd figure it would suck for the ex-wife as well, who presumably loved and found something good in this person, at least temporarily.
