You should prob read more information about SSA overpayments.

Then again I am not sure why/how the SSA would wire you money without verifying any information for who this money was really meant for.

This is 99% fake.

SSA office claimed they sent me a letter in early November telling me I was "owed" this money. I never received the letter as they sent it to an address I have not lived at in years.

I'm legally blind. If I had no job I would be entitled to what is known as SSI. I'm gainfully employed (low six figure income in NYC) so I'm def not entitled to SSI payments. At the office it was explained to me this was supposed to be "backpayment" for a couple years of unpaid monthly SSI payments.

Payments clearly not owed to me.

here, if you willingly make a bank transfer to somebody and it ends up being the wrong account or something, you are legally not obliged to return it. of course you will be hounded for it, but legally, you win.

Even for scams. My roomate bough something on the equivelent of e-bay here. Sent a bank transfer, did not receive item. Turns out it was a known scam, but NOT EE THE POLICE CAN DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT because he willingly made the bank transfer to them. Messed up.
But yeah, when you receive 17K yourself, your laughing.

I was saying that here in 4L (where this thread should've been posted in the first place) a thread like this can become interesting, with a mix of memes and actual content driven posts. In BBV it was just being overrun by people who wanted to explore the intricacies of the underline button.
