It might be worth toughing out for a year, if the above is true... and maybe you can wireless-commute on some days?
Based on your description, I'd have to think of reasons to force myself to take the job, if I were going to do it.
I am trying to think of reasons to take it. I was only offered the job 6 hours ago and already I have flip flopped about 3 dozen times. I should be happy, but I am actually miserable. I worked in a similar environment once (granted for a lot less money), and vowed NEVER to do it again.
I do not see myself staying there more than a year. But I also know how hard it is to walk away from that type of salary once you start making it. It's how I got on the career path I am currently on, and really kind of want to downsize and get back to my more creative roots.

TBH, in February I was considering quitting my job to play poker and write. It is something I did in the past and had success with, and poker had been a steady income source. Since Black Friday, that does not seem a viable option anymore. Also, far less pressure being a poker pro when you don't have a kid. I'd prob play a little scared w/o a salary to back it up if everything goes to hell.

Definitely considering this. Will address part 2 further down....

I should still be able to provide even with a lesser paying job. Of course I do feel my current situation is at risk. Still, I like to think I can pick something up that at least pays the bills...but then again, it is a scary economy.

Well, I am currently about $200k underwater on my house (Yay buying a first home in 2006!). Also, my wife just left her old job and started a new job that is 15-20 minutes from home. She loves where she works, and loves her new job. Yes, she makes less than me, but she is happy, and our daughter has a much closer daycare to home. She also loves this house. I currently drive about 75 minutes each way to work.
