I'll update this is parts. Forgive typos...doing this off my phone.

After their rah rah go team BS they spewed I come in the following Monday that they have decided to reorganize and decentralize their business model. Long Story short they are splitting up my team among three organizations. People will now have dual reporting duties...to me and to a division VP.

Yeah. **** like that never works out well.

In addition, I was told to slash 3 salaries from my group. I was given a list of people who were "overcompensated" and told to "make them green".

Then they wanted to switch my groups focus to more of an internal support organization for these decentralized business units. IOW, everyone becomes my boss and tell me how best to do my job and run my team which is no longer really mine.

Then they offered me a nice big pay raise and signing bonus. Cut the guy making $50k but give it to me. And to the new members of senior management they are hiring. And I was also offered a parking space. And they signed me up for a corporate brainwashing seminar.

I did not sign. I shook my head and said that they simply do not understand me or how I operate.

I let them know I would do my job as they feel it should be done. I would outline for them an annual campaign plan with key strategies etc. And I would give them my best effort. But that I did not agree with their chosen direction. I will follow it but do not agree with it.

They then took my "#2" guy and transferred him to a difference department. One that is hemmoraging money and one I do not think will be around in 3 months.

I had no choice not say not was I told about it till after it happened.

I had a meeting with those I trust in the organization and told them that my plan was not to be here more than a few months or sooner, so they won't be blindsided. I have offered to write reccomendations for those who want it, and explained I understand if people look elsewhere or stay or do what they feel is best.

I told the COO I was disappointed with their choice of leadership and that I am done being a distraction. I tried to effect some change and failed. Without saying it I told him my time here is limited. He asked what they can do and I said that based on their recent actions nothing.

In the meantime have had 2 interviews at a place I want. Hopefully something comes of that.

More **** has happened but I really hate writing long posts on this phone so am just gonna hit send, hope I covered the key ****, and promise to answer whatever questions I can.

very nice KF, as much as I love the antics you were doing, very professional. If I had a boss like you, work would so much be more enjoyable and I would so much be more productive.

As such, my last job I was doing the minimum and keeping to myself as I rather really dislike the place. I eventually quit and play poker now. Than I had to move of course.

Today I gave a joke "pitch" to a new SVP here. I do it as an icebreaker sometimes. It is basically an intentionally over the top hokey hard sell of "an idea."

Think Billy Mays meets Dom Deaper meets a hyperactive Carrott Top and Crank it to 10. I've done this shpeel before and it is pretty much a guaranteed laugh.

SVP loved it. Loved my passion loves how my brain works. The purpose of the exercise was to show how u can say and sell nothing and how sheep will follow.

He wants me to put it in a PowerPoint for him. He does not realize it was meant as a joke.

I am going to have fun with this. I probably shouldn't, but I do not possess the willpower to resist.

I have never met so many stupid people making so much money in my life.

Seriously...I am now convinced that making $300k+++/yr is not nearly as hard as I thought. This is both encouraging and scary, folks.

Two of the senior execs here do not know how to use email. At all. One prints up every message he gets and has his EA (or as he refers to her...his "girl" print them out and collate them for him every morning. (IOW, if you send him an email at 8:31 AM, he will not get it till the next day...if at all. the same holds true for calendar invites).

The other person did not understand what HTML was, or how our intranet worked. He was also unfamiliar with the "new" Word and powerpoint, what MS project was or the difference between web browsers (such as Firefox v. chrome v IE). Now, you may not think that to be that big of a deal, and perhaps it is not, but the gentleman in question is our CTO, or Chief Technology Officer. The one who determines our IT solutions both internally and externally. I am not 100% certain he knows how to spell "IT."

The first gentleman above owns his own plane. The second drives an Aston Martin. He does not know how to work the GPS.

I look around and see myself surrounded by highly paid idiots. All the good people have left pretty much. Then I look at myself, and wonder if perhaps the fact that i am still here says more about me than I like. If only idiots remain, and I am still here making less than some of the bigger idiots, well then, what does that make me?

Must get out soon.

This is so typical.

The difference between those guys and you. Those guys let the company own them. You are free to do whatever the **** you want. And the freedom is so much better than the money.

Welcome to corporate. My brother in law shares a lot with me and when you think it cant be topped, he does.

Bottom line; its a wonder how some of these companies stay in business with so many highly paid fools in charge.

The CTO thing is making my head asplode over and over. Did this guy get laterally moved from some other executive position by someone who figured technical knowledge was optional? Or did he rise up the ranks when everything was dumb terminals hooked up to a mainframe, and never updated his skills?

At this point, some life advice:
milk the salary for all it's worth. Well, as much as you can stand emotionally.
That much stupidity, you can't expect to have any control over your job security,
unless they delegate any of that control.

They'd hafta come to u 4 help.
Can u say testosterone?

I'm only 40, and I still take calls once in a while from clients with IBM 3153 terminals. Hell, we were still selling a few of 'em until about 12 years ago.

The CTO has a very fancy degree and doctoral. He is quite literally a Rocket Scientist.

We do not produce nor provide support for rockets, but I guess it looks good on a (paper) resume.

This is his first CTO gig. He was some sort of uber engineer before this. Just cause you are smart in one field don't mean u are qualified to be the CTO at an IT firm. Yes, we are an IT firm.

FWIW I like the CTO and think he is a nice guy and a genius. I am just not sure he knows how to tie his own shoes, or work a gas pump. (In fact, I know he does not know how to work a gas pump...if it were rocket fuel tho he'd probably be ok). Having said that, he should never have been hired and will likely be a key contributor to the downfall of the company.

Also...My boss evidentally does not understand the difference between a moving set of images (aka a "video") and a still photograph (aka a "picture"). I just had to explain to him why I could not animate a photograph to do what he wanted it to do.

Don't ask.

Ah makes sense firms love them engineers from the `best` schools. Found it kinda hilarious- CTO seems laid back as well is he?? On that much money?

I only looked into this particular sub-forum first time yesterday.
This was the first thread, and boy did it deliver.
Just.Pure.Brilliancy.

But this made me look into a bunch of other threads to see if this was some standard thread, and now my eyes are bleeding from all the utter nonsense thats posted on these walls (I guess Caturday brought a few smiles though).

But sadly I will want to try to experience that initial heroin trip one more time, so I will most likely become a new BBV4L reg.

Sorry to derail the beautiful thing that is this thread,
Best of luck King Fish, and keep them updates coming.
