I have been in the car business for over 15 years...I am happy to answer any questions about:

The best way to purchase a car.

What you should pay for a specific used car. (I can look up auction and book prices anytime)

Are you being ripped off?

Buying a car is the 2nd largest purchase of your life guys... I am happy to help.

If you have to buy a wife then you are probably right.

How much did your wife cost? (Mine was free and makes more money then I do so I guess I am lucky)

Do you have your own dealership, and is it a big or small one?How much do you make on an average per car assuming your peddling used cars you got at a dealers auction?

I'll bite since I sold cars for 5 years, eons ago

can you really make a living these days selling cars? there's almost no profit in new cars unless it's a hot new model, used cars you can find a profit at times but now with all of the guides out there even that is difficult to get a decent comission

ok I'm actually going to buy a new car one of these days. How do I find out exactly how far down I can negotiate the price?

I run a high end used car dealership in Phoenix AZ. Avg profit is about $1500 per car sold.

1) with all this transparency in the market, do you think the biz is heading to model where sales people essentially become agents that sell everything (the vehicle, financing & other programs), desk their own deals and then report directly to a gm (i.e. no middle managers)? i think sonic is heading in this direction?

2) what is your take on http://www.truecar.com?

I sell most my cars on the internet.. Ebay is my #1 advertising source, you have to move with the times in this business or you get left in the dust. There is more profit in luxuary cars so that is what we sell. The car biz is allot different now then it was even 3 years ago!

HELL NO! Owners take all the risks and dont make as much money as people think they do. I am happy with my 80k a year and I have no risk involved. I can screw up at my job and its the owner that gets sued not me. In this economy, I have no interest in owning a car dealership! I am happy behind my desk making car deals...

Do you think wood panels on doors/hood are due for a comeback ?

What about lime green cars ?

Do people really eat from the disgusting machines that provide nuts and chocolate snacks for 25 cents ?

Do you wear suede jackets to work ?

Do you provide cheap coffee for your client in order to befriend them ?

Do you know where OOT is ?

The new car business is making allot of changes and I think that you are right about Sonic. It wont work imo, changing faces with middle management is important because you cant play the good guy / bad guy game without it.

The salesman's job is to get you in the office and committed to buy a car, its the managers job to close the deal... Its been this way for 50 years and I don't seeing it changing anytime soon.

Is it true that you never want to trade your car in that you should always sell it to someone else?

What was the worst you have ever riped someone off for and felt bad? or maybe you never felt bad.

I have a 01 Toyota Celica GT, 128k miles, Automatic, nothing to special basic crap, so its worth about 3500 to 4k, I want an 09 Altima, or an 09 Toyota Camary.

Trading a car in is simply more convinent, you get the car you want right away and you dont have to deal with strangers coming to your house looking at your car and casing your home.. You do not get as much trade value as you would if you sold it privatley so it depends on how you feel about it.

I never feel bad about making profit on a car, My largest gross profit on a car I sold was over $14,000 on a custom Hummer H2 in 2005. Do you feel bad when someone plays bad poker and you win a huge pot because that person is an idiot? Same thing imo...
