Any advice for people getting into sales?
How to become good, or any books and tips you can recommend?

Thanks for doing this thread

I'm trying to sell my silver 2004 Mazda Rx 8 with 68k miles. It has leather seats and the sport package. It has a few cosmetic flaws on the exterior. Also the check engine light is on, but is in otherwise good condition. What do you think a used car dealer would give me for this automobile. I do not want to sell it privately.

do you think you can get financing on a new 40k car with no verifiable stable income if you put down 20k

How long can I drive a car and still be able to return it?

Also, how many times do you think I can do this without making a car payment or ruining my credit?

i sale cars to for a living and actually sale american cars. Yes new cars as far as domestic ones dont make much at all unless it is a popular vehicle or you just are good. haha But the used market is still good. i make and i sure all salesman make the most on the used side. that will never change in the car business. yes there is alot of guides like kbb and all that crap but you can usually make some money on used.

3 year old Toyota Highlander; 21,000 miles. Need to sell it because of a death in the family (it was his "nice" car that he rarely drove). Where to sell it? Would the difference be between private placement and selling to a dealership/lot?

what if u showed up middle december to buy a current year car with cash?
will they let it go for 80-90% of its value
figuring in few weeks it will be old and the deprecation on any luxury car is a bitch even a entry level one

Look for a dealership that is Hiring for New car sales. A new car dealership is going to train you if they are any good. I would look at Honda, Ford, or a Chevy store. Its not easy to get a good car sales job right now, Here is the secret to getting a job. If they tell you that they will "call you" or "thanks for coming in" and just put your application on the desk and not offer an interview. Tell the person that took your application that "You are going to come in everyday ready to work until you give me a job" AND DO IT! If you go into the same dealership everyday and tell them you want to sell cars & you are ready to learn how, they will give you a job within a week! I promise (gotta pass a piss test, have a clean drving record)....

YOU MUST HAVE THE ABILITY TO START A POSITIVE RELATIONSHIP WITH A TOTAL STRANGER IN LESS THEN 30 SECONDS! If you cant do this then don't sell cars.

Selling cars can be the easiest, highest paying job you have ever had.

or

The Hardest, lowest paying job you have ever had..

If you are looking at New cars then it usually does not matter when you are looking to buy.. If you have the right information then you can get the best deal at any new car dealership of your choice because each dealer pays the same invoice price as the other.

The best deal is usually dependant on how much the customer is educated on the real value of the car there buying and how much they want to deal with the headache of negotiations.. This is why internet auctions on new and used cars are becoming more and more popular. The ecucated, internet savy buyer can make a purchase and never have to deal with the negotiations.

4x4? leather? options? I would recomend craigslist or ebay to advertise the car. If you trade it in on another car, be prepared to get about 25%-30% less then if you were to retail the car yourself.

$7,000 to $7,500 is what they are running accross the block at the auctions... If you can get more then $7,500 I would take it. When you trade the car, dont tell them you have a trade right away! Negotiate the price of the car you are buying then throw the trade in, you will get a better deal.

In most states, when you buy a car you are an OWNER and there are no returns. I believe California is 3 days though... I will trade people out of cars that they are unhappy with buy I do not offer refunds, most used and new car dealers do not offer refunds.

back 5 years ago or so doing this was no problem! Now, it is damn near impossible... The banks are really tightening the nuse on dealers and the info they provide about the applicant. I have perfect, 800+ credit score customers that have to prove there income before they can get a $15,000 loan!

I don't need a car and don't want to sell cars, but I would be interested in pointers on this topic.

I took my 09 bmw back to the dealer for yet another service appointment because my service engine light went on. It's unfortunately about the fourth time I've taken it in since I've bought it new. I'm on my second service advisor since the first one was a dick. Anyway they call me back later that day saying "they know what the problem is but because it's the weekend it won't be ready till Tues". I say"well then i need a car."
He say's "Sorry we are all out of cars right now" He's pretty much full of **** right?
I realize now that i acquire a lot of my self worth from the car i drive. Does the last couple days of being forced to drive an 88 Oldsmobile make them liable for mental anguish?

All it takes is a good hand shake and find something you have in common, anything... clothes, hat, kids the same age, home town, whatever you can find... You need to find it fast, talk about something other then cars and gain some repore. Its all about building friendship that you can grow, this is a customer that you could sell 5-6 or more cars over a lifetime. Most people conceive an initial positive or negative opinion about another person in less then 30 seconds, If they don't like you buy then, you are done!

No one is going to buy a car from a salesman they don't like, customers can get the same deal on a new car at any car dealership. When a customer buys, they are buying you and the dealership not the car.

Sounds like you need to find a different BMW dealer to take your car to. Check into you local Lemon laws, usually if you go in for the same problem 3 times then you can enact the Lemon law and get a new car or this one paid off. Each state is different when it comes to this law so your going to need to do some investigation.

lol...No, they are not liable for mental anguish. Ask if they would be willing to partially pay for a rental car.. If they say no, I would ask to speak to the General Manager of the dealership, he/she should help resolve your issues

Have a mechanic check it out first, those Boxsters can be a nighmare if they have been driven real hard...
I would deff agree someone is trying to knock your head off however....

Assuming you can buy a Boxster for $8800 you then have then cost of transportation from the auction to the lot , normally a fixed fee esp if you use a dedicated transporter.

With any car you will then have it at very least safety checked for sale, from experience id say at best maybe 70-80% of cars coming from auction that are even only 3-4 years old never mind an 11 yr old 90k car Porsche or not will require something done in order to make them ready for sale. Of course you will then need to have the car detailed and ready for sale another cost, and then of course the longer its on the lot the less real profit you are making as the book values move from month to month. In the case of the Porsche although it will remain very static due age and the marque in question.

So transportation service / safety checks and detailing you could easily be looking at $1000 and that is cheap. That brings the real cost to a bare minimum $9800. How then can you sell it for $9500-$10k when you have to allow lets say a conservative 30 days on average per used car between purchase and sale so that's an outlay of cash and then time sitting on the lot talking up space .... you cant especially since getting a 90k 11 yr old car financed is nigh on impossible unless of course Mr SIlver bullet is sitting in front of you.

I would say that a fair sales price would be more like $10750-$10500 at best.
