Either way, I was thinking it's quite possible for someone to be taking aspirin, fish oil, and extra helpings of olive oil all at once before they even get to a prescription anti-coagulant, and without being a totally crazed vitamin nut or anything. That's not even counting other oils or nutrients with similar effects.

Anyway, thinking of the spillover effects of all the things you're consuming is certainly worth thinking about. If it were me, I would ask the doctor what he thought about where I should draw the line.
Hmm, some interesting stuff that I hadn't really considered. I do take a multivitamin, but I don't really know if there are any other anti-coags in it. A cursory google did not lead me to an ingredients list and I'm too lazy to type all of them out right now. I will discuss this with my cardiologist though.

And fwiw, I don't drink to get drunk anymore, that is something of the past for me. So I don't have hangovers since I'm never drinking to excess. This is a quoted portion from my wall of text earlier,

which should state "I never have more than 6 drinks." At least I haven't for the last year, I used to be the definition of an alcoholic, so that is certainly a concern, but I believe I have that under control.

But if Think Of The Children founder Roger Ehoal has his way online poker would be illegal. 'What Fredd-bird is doing is wrong' says Ehoal, 'he's taking advantage of people like jayteeme who get drunk and play an overpair like it's the nuts.' In fact, the US government currently does not allow financial institutions to transfer money to online gambling sites, including poker sites, putting one young man's heart surgery further out or reach. Actually, it's probably better advice to do the opposite once you're on warfarin. Warfarin is a super tricky drug with tons and tons of drug interactions. The effect has to be titrated to each specific patient and it's very hard to tell what someone's personal dose will be. And it's srs biz to say the least.

If your blood's not "thinned" enough the hunk of metal/plastic in you could cause your blood to form clots. These clots will be in your aorta and get shot all over your body blocking blood flow in all kinds of places (stroke, possibly). If it's too "thinned" you run the risk of bleeding to death.

Herbal products have tons of drug interactions (they're "dirty" chemicals) and can mess with warfarin a ton. Avoid them. Most people can afford mess around with magical life-force healing herbals and vitamins but chronic warfarin users can't.

Horrors!

Maybe he should forget either the most simple and unobjectionable logic or talking to his doctors, and just ignore everything but pharmacists flapping their lips without thinking from now on.

Agreed, that was pretty cool. Typing up my resume as a cardiovascular surgeon right now, can I use you as a reference?

Ya I'm only on gemifibrozil and baby aspirin currently, so once I get to this bridge I will cross it. I kinda thought this was standard, but I tell my doctor the truth because this isn't something to mess around with. He knows about all the medication I take and my exact drug consumption patterns and if there is an issue with this when I am on warfarin I expect him to tell me to change my habits. I appreciate your advice and knowledge in this field, you are not my physician so there my be some other factors that have not been mentioned ITT which could change my drug therapy. I did notice there are a lot of drugs that have potential effects on warfarin, so this will be a topic of discussion the next time I'm at his office.

Have you talked to an anesthesiologist yet? Are you afraid of the anaesthesia itself? Will you stay in the ICU after surgery?

The only time I spoke with an anesthesiologist was when I was counting down from 10 when they put me under for my cardiac catheterization. This isn't like a normal catheter, this is just a tube stuck up my femoral artery. Why would I be afraid of anesthesia?

Should be in the ICU for no more than a week post-op, from what I remember.

I'm going to go ride 3 miles then swim some, take it easy.

5'10" 180lbs

What are you some kind of moran? Natural selection brought upon the person smart enough to create the device that will fix me and the person that will do it.
