One of my partners has the same condition, and has done a TON of well informed research as to what to do. There are a couple of places (I believe that Stanford is one) that are doing valve replacements via catheter/noninvasive - meaning no chest cracking.

some1 shoulda mentioned this 2 my vascular surgeon.
When they originally blew the clots out, it was catheter/noninvasive. This time around, in October, he installed the plastic stents, in as invasive a manner as possible. 10 f***ing staples. He musta went in there w/ a f***ing slim jim.

Today was my 1st grocery run with the mtn. bike since the surgery, which basically means I'm above my target heart rate for 10-15 mins. AFTER the f'k'n food's put away.

Only update is I have health insurance now. I went to doctor once because I was sick and told him about my condition. I filled out some medical information release forms so they could get my files from previous cardiologists and they never did... so now I'm looking for a new doctor because these bitches suck.

I also used to have a lot more chest pain and general discomfort, but since I've started lifting weights feel a ton better.

Ya I know about this already, UofMichigan is also doing something similar. I think I'm now more realistically in the 5-10 years out from needing this done, despite not seeing a cardiologist since 2009 (it would be very helpful if I had my records...

You weren't lying about being approximately 10 years out! Did you have OHS or did they manage to do it via TAVR/PAVR?

Great question! As part of a routine echocardiogram, there was an aneurysm identified on my ascending aorta. My valve still technically hadn't reached the point where they would be willing to replace, but combined with the aneurysm it meant I needed surgery very soon. The combination of the two issues meant they needed to split me open and I now have an ~8 inch scar from where they broke my sternum and sewed it back together.

Fredd hasn't been back since but I'm going to guess his ticker is kickin' just fine.
