do you ever feel guilty selling a car you have previously "performed" in?

Spoiler:
in the interest of clarity, selling the car to a person whom it was you didn't bone in said car

Cars.com Autotrader.com dealership website. We are a small store so Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube don't really help us, but they play a large part in big stores.

Suckers is the best!

While that can be true, that's not the case with me. We are a small store and I was the only one with enough computer knowledge to do the job.

It's actually easier to sell "walk in" customers, than Internet. Much easier to sell someone that is right in front of you.

Everyone has theories, like don't tell them you have a trade in til the end, or don't tell them what payment you want to pay. In reality as long as you aren't a moron, being honest about what your trying to do is fastest. If the salesman likes the customer, they are less likely going to try to screw them. But if they lie and waste the salesman's time they are much more likely to try.

DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!! And buying a car is easy. Have any idea of what you want to pay. Know your credit history, do the math. Don't ask to pay $200 per month for a $20k car, and don't pay $600 for that same car.

Be nice, don't put up with bull**** or a shady salesman, if you don't trust them then just leave!

You mention multiple times that you work at a small dealership. OP states that you are top 1% Nissan salesman in the country. How can both of these things be true?

How much did you make last year?

Average car salesman makes about $40,000 per year very good considering no need for college education.

2008:$97,000
2009:$101,000
2010:$108,000
2011:$122,000
2012:$129,000 so far

Our stores sells about 40-70 cars per month. I sell anywhere from 15-35 per month myself.

Changing a tire is easy, in cabin mircofilter, surface brake rotors, change a battery, fuse or bulb that's about it though. Most car salesman typically know very little about how cars run or are fixed.

I don't see how you are banking that kind of cash being an honest salesman. I sold cars for a while. It was fairly easy for me to do volume. My first month I sold 25 cars 2nd most in the dealership out of like 20 salesman. But I could not hold gross for **** and wound up getting mostly mini's.

As you mentioned mini's are usually a flat $100. How are you making so much money? Obv raping people on the used cars? My first month I made like 3.2k, but I was working bell to bell pretty much. I think I worked nearly 300 hrs my first month. Not exactly a strong hourly when I was used to construction money.

My new car sales career lasted 3 months. When I was tilted hard and told everyone to **** off and quit. It started when I sell this guy a used grand marquis all cash, and finally make a nice score like a 5 pounder (5k profit) 30% of which was mine. So they get the guy back in finance and **** up my ****. This guy was half a roach and they end up financing the car, loading up the back end. I wind up with a measly $300. I was beyond tilted. This was the score I had been waiting 3 months for.

This was back in 2006 in Vegas. I was selling Hyundai. 25 first month, 22 second, 19 third month. I also sold used for a year around 2010. Liked that much more. Have you ever had a dealership rob YOU? And what is you're secret dude? Certainly the whole young, likeable, I'm on your side, can't be the only thing you are doing.

I'm in a very lucky spot! Average gross on our used is $3,000 so I can average almost $1,000 on every used car. And yes I work crazy hours almost 80 per week. It's very stressful and I'm getting burned out.

And I don't get screwed at all. I know the gross the entire time and don't get shafted. Selling new cars blow, but if you sell enough there are some pretty good bonus to hit.
