After what time can you become a French citizen?

How many native French serve there?

I think after ~4-5 years you can apply for french citizenship, around the same time that you can get your real name back. Short time before your first contract ends (5 years).

There were roughly 30-35% native French guys on average when I was there.

^^We only got "pain", which is the french word for white bread.
(the vocabulary fits very well, once it gets older than 24 hours...)

My brother joined to french foreign legion back in 2009. After health issues(with one ear deaf), he was suspended, at least he told that story to me. French legion is good in terms of money only for third world countries citizens. Of course, if you OP ain't interested in cash, it's cool place where to die.

No, not at all. But you need to learn it. Some of the guys didnt understand jack**** after being a few weeks or even month in, but the french mates helped them. Though, beside knowing what you have to clean, where to run or walk to, and doing push-ups, there was not much that had to be understood, anyway.

I stopped doing drugs and got bored. I also wanted the 1300€ pension after 15 years to retire before being 40. Though, the pension would just have been 700€ when I would have retired, so I quit.

No, you get a typical (random) name for your origin/country.

Only some of my direct, inexperienced mates made some jokes.
In fact, the legion sings many german songs, and when stopped marching, our caporal always said "Achtung,...halt!", instead of something on french.
Germans have a lot of history in the legion, and respect is important there.

Over there, I got told that the german company "Bosch" was bought by a french company, which is kind of funny. They hardly ever called me a boche, I mainly just heard casse-toi (**** off), when I tried to bum cigs during the first 4 weeks.

What do you mean about a new identity? Does it mean what I think it does? They give you a different name and call you by that? What's the purpose of that?

How was training? Was it anything like boot camp scenes in war movies and stuff?

Have you been in a firefight? Can you tell us your craziest/awesomest combat story?

Yes, the purpose of it is being anonymious, and also part of getting one where they want them, I think. You are someone else there, someone new, and your past has nothing to do with it anymore. You get a new start for your life.

Yes, pretty much like a boot-camp, I suppose. for the first 4 weeks, we had maybe 4 hours of sleep on average, and all lost a lot of weight, even the skinny ones like me.

I went back home before I got into any serious missons, due to false promises regarding loan and possible pension, and also the fact that I am a pussy, compared to the better half of the other volunteers, I guess :/

You didn't hit it, but it was a generic and cliche-like as the ones you mentioned.

Hogwarts is Harry Potter, right?
We had sports-weeks, where we did several challanges, and the main challange was to just keep going all the time, which was way tougher than it sounds. Though, I made second place of about 40 in the virtual-shooting contest, smth like a ego shooter on a cinema-screen with a gun instead of a controller in your hand.

On Korsika, there are the most elite troops, like parachutes and divers etc.
There are aslo many jobs in administration, which I intended to take after having my dreams of going to the parachutes being crushed after just one week of few food and sleep, and lots of exercise...

Who was the craziest bloke you ran into over there?

What do legionnaires do for fun?

How do the French view the FFL compared to other modern military units? Is it a point of pride to still have the Legion around?

- Before the preselection was done, there were a lot of stupids and mad-jobs. Afterwards, there were very few nutjobs left.
Most interesting in my company might have been a brazilian, who was pretty tall (~1,90m), and definintely looked like he did lots of lifting and steroids.
Though, after 4 weeks of very few food and sleep during basic education, he still looked a lot bigger than anyone else did before it started.
We all gained back +10kg of weight in the first week after the month of basic education and the march for the white cappy, when we finally got to eat as much as we want for a week, but that guy was definintely gaining back +20kg in that week easily.
He had two jiu-jitsu schools in Brazil, but some stress with local organized crime, who threatened to kill him because he didnt want to sell his 2 schools to them.
He once made some spar fights with another brazilian who also was quite good at jiu-jitsu, where the other guy was sitting on him in full-guard, trying to slap him in the face, but he did not get a single hand in, no matter how hard and fast he tried, since the guy was just to quick and flexible, despite his size. It was mildy said amazing, and I thought about learning ji-jitsu myself, too.

During the first week after the first month, we were allowed to buy sweets out of these machines, same as you find on train-stations, and he managed to clean out all the waffles out of 5 different machines in our whole area within 4 days. We estimated the amount of waffles that he ate, beside the 3 huge meals per day that we got in that week, at about 60-70, maybe more. He used to tell us about his plans how to get to the one last machine with waffles left, which was in the seargents-house that we were not allowed to enter, without being seen, but got caught twice. Though, he didnt receive any real punishment iirc, since everyone was clement with all guys that just finished their tough first month.

- Well, for fun we all did different things.
I got to drink some great wine on several occassions, where I helped an older legionnaire to transport some heavy stuff, and afterwards, we always went to a lake where retired legionnaires where fishing, eating, drinking and talking.
That was the first time I ever enjoyed drinking wine. They also had some fantastic bacon and cheese, and everybody was smoking cigs and talking all the time.

We also had a solid gym, which I used twice in my last week before I left.

There are some festivals, like Camerone and others, where civilians can come to, and everyone gets ****faced, even the Lieutnants. Our lieutenant was heavily drunk once, and asked me (I was bartending beer, since I'm german) for salt for his fries. Not just once or twice, but a lot of times for one single portion of fries. Though, some lower level supervisor (~adjutant) told me that he is the one who I have to obey to atm, and I should stop giving salt to the lieutnant. I then managed to secretly give my lieutnant two more packs of salt when the other guy didnt look. I still wonder why he wanted so much damn salt on his fries...

- Yes, it's sort of a highly valued tradition/pride, but the French also like the fact that they still have the Legion to go for the most dangerous mission, in the first place.

Can you right click to use burst fire like in Counter Strike?

Also if you were in a fire fight how much would you go for headshots vs. just shooting the the body for less hitpoints?
