Re: The 10 best pop punk songs

I'm dubious these guitar riffs weren't actually written by Yngwie Malmsteen and Joe Satriani collaborating for a few minutes while on acid. It's still pretty good, and these guys are funny enough to be the Milli Vanilli's of pop punk if they want to. Hey, didn't one of them used to date Ashlee Simpson? Maybe it was Avril Lavigne, but who can tell the difference anyway...

Re: The 10 best pop punk songs

Basically everything on the album was solid. Aliens Exist is probably the most technically impressive. People seem to really like 'Going away to college' but I think it's the very last song on the cd I want to listen to. Having the most skilled drummer on the planet must be really nice.

Wear this shirt at a concert or a party with boomers and get laid. It's never been this easy.

Re: The 10 best pop punk songs

When I wrote that Travis is the most skilled, I meant that he can play anything. The conversation of who the best is includes Dave Grohl, who could lose to Travis in a chair challenge. However, playing behind Kurt Cobain for years had to have been among the most stressful jobs ever, indicating that Grohl can play anywhere, which is a little different from what I originally said.

Re: The 10 best pop punk songs

It's really easy to compose bad pop punk. Getting it right is almost a miracle...tying 3 power chords together isn't supposed to get you very far. The Middle has a 3-note(!) chorus, and misery business is practically a 2-note song. You know what, this genre not totally sucking is in fact a miracle.

Re: The 10 best pop punk songs

This might be one of the most lopsided genres in music history. There's like an astronomically few good songs compared to endless studio-driven tracks w/some of the cringiest lyrics, attire and public image you could ever find.

That gives me an idea for a thread. "Share your worst life experiences to the theme of Simple Plan's discography"

Re: The 10 best pop punk songs

Pieces
Quote:

[Verse 1]
I tried to be perfect, but nothing was worth it
I don’t believe it makes me real
I thought it’d be easy, but no one believes me
I meant all the things I said

[Chorus]
If you believe it’s in my soul, I’d say all the words that I know
Just to see if it would show that I’m trying to let you know
That I’m better off on my own

[Verse 2]
This place is so empty, my thoughts are so tempting
I don’t know how it got so bad
Sometimes it’s so crazy that nothing can save me
But it’s the only thing that I have

[Chorus]
If you believe it’s in my soul, I’d say all the words that I know
Just to see if it would show that I’m trying to let you know
That I’m better off on my own

Punk Rawk Show

Quote:
We ain't got no place to go
So let's go to the punk rawk show
Darling take me by the hand
Gonna see a punk rawk band
There's no use in tv shows
Radio or rodeos
I wanna get into the crowd
Wanna hear it play real loud

We ain't got no place to go
So let's go to the punk rawk show
Darling take me by the hand
We're gonna see a punk rawk band
There's no use in tv shows
Radio or rodeos
I wanna get into the crowd
I wanna hear it play real loud
Loud yeah loud

Ain't' got no money to pay
We'll get in anyway
Doesn't matter i don't care
It feels good so we should share
We're going to the punk rawk show

Hit or Miss

Quote:
[Verse 1]
The needle on my record player has been wearing thin
This record has been playing since the day you've been with him

[Pre-Chorus]
No more long rides home
No more of your station
I didn't like it anyways
Remember the time we wrote our names upon the wall
Remember the time we realized "Thriller" was our favorite song

[Chorus]
Have I waited too long
Have I found that someone
Have I waited too long to see you
Have I waited too long
Have I found that someone
Have I waited too long to see you

[Verse 2]
Maybe it's for the best
Maybe it's not for anything
It wouldn't be so bad to take this right from me

[Pre-Chorus]
No more long rides home
No more of your station
I didn't like it anyways
Remember the time we wrote our names upon the wall
Remember the time we realized "Thriller" was our favorite song

[Chorus]
Have I waited too long
Have I found that someone
Have I waited too long to see you
Have I waited too long
Have I found that someone
Have I waited too long to see you

[Bridge]
How many times I've tried
It's simple to you, so simple to lie
How many times I've tried
Blatant mistakes of your design
How many times I've tried
It's simple to you, so simple to lie
How many times I've tried
Blatant mistakes of your design

[Chorus]
Have I waited too long
Have I found that someone
Have I waited too long to see you

[Outro]
I've had so many chances
Turn my back and I ran away
I've had so many chances to see you

Re: The 10 best pop punk songs

I don't know about this "genius.com" thing, but that chorus looks an awful lot like verse #2

At least the words are right (*looks away from camera* "Not like they have any meaning anyway!")

I Hear You Calling

Quote:
[Verse 1]
I've seen you now about the fourth time, baby
But you know that I got nothing to say
It's so charming to look on your face
But your eyes inviting something I just can't do now
I've been around about your hood, I'm looking for you
Just to shine some light on my day
Feels like ages since I've been out your way
I've been caught up with a handful of new sensations

[Pre-Chorus]
I hear you calling, calling for me out in the night
But it's all bad and I know that

[Chorus]
I've seen you now about the fifth time, baby
But you know I got nothing to say
It's so charming to look on your face
But your eyes inviting something I just can't do now
I've been around about your hood, I'm looking for you
Just to shine some light on my day
Feels like ages since i've been out your way
I've been caught up with a handful of new sensations

[Post-Chorus]
I hear you calling, calling for me out in the night
But it's all bad and I know that

[Solo]

[Bridge]
I hear you calling, calling for me out in the night
But it's all bad and I know that
I hear you calling, calling for me out in the night
But it's all bad and I know that

[Outro]
I hear you calling, calling for me out in the night
But it's all bad and I know that
I hear you calling, calling for me out in the night
But it's all bad and I know that
I hear you calling, calling for me out in the night
But it's all bad and I know that
I hear you calling, calling for me out in the night
But it's all bad and I know that
I hear you calling, calling for me out in the night
But it's all bad

Re: The 10 best pop punk songs

The Middle

Quote:
[Verse 1]
Hey, don't write yourself off yet
It's only in your head you feel left out or looked down on
Just try your best, try everything you can
And don't you worry what they tell themselves when you're away

[Chorus]
It just takes some time
Little girl, you're in the middle of the ride
Everything, everything will be just fine
Everything, everything will be all right, all right

[Verse 2]
Hey, you know they're all the same
You know you're doing better on your own, so don't buy in
Live right now, yeah, just be yourself
It doesn't matter if it's good enough for someone else

[Chorus]
It just takes some time
Little girl, you're in the middle of the ride
Everything, everything will be just fine
Everything, everything will be all right, all right
It just takes some time
Little girl, you're in the middle of the ride
Everything, everything will be just fine
Everything, everything will be all right, all right, woo!

[Guitar Solo]

[Verse 3]
Hey, don't write yourself off yet
It's only in your head you feel left out or looked down on
Just do your best, do everything you can
And don't you worry what their bitter hearts are gonna say

[Chorus]
It just takes some time
Little girl, you're in the middle of the ride
Everything, everything will be just fine
Everything, everything will be all right, all right
It just takes some time
Little girl, you're in the middle of the ride
Everything, everything will be just fine
Everything, everything will be all right

Re: The 10 best pop punk songs

Tell the mick that fall out boy used to be cool

Quote:
[Verse 1]
Light that smoke, that one for giving up on me
And one just 'cause they’ll kill you sooner than my expectations
To my favorite liar, to my favorite scar (to my favorite scar!)
I could have died with you
I hope you choke on those words that kiss that bottle
Confess (so bury me in memory)
Now ask yourself, yeah, out on the insides
Said I loved you but I lied

[Pre-Chorus]
Let’s play this game, called “when you catch fire
I wouldn’t piss to put you out"
Stop burning bridges and drive off of them
So I can forget about you

[Chorus]
So bury me in memory, his smile’s your rope
So wrap it tight around your throat

[Verse 2]
On the drive home joke about the kid
You used to see and his jealousy, breaking hearts has never
Looked so cool as when you wrap your car around a tree
Your makeup looks so great next to his teeth (His teeth!)

[Pre-Chorus]
Let’s play this game, called “when you catch fire
I wouldn’t piss to put you out", no
Stop burning bridges and drive off of them
So I can forget about you

[Chorus]
So bury me in memory, his smile’s your rope
So wrap it tight around your throat
So bury me in memory, his smile’s your rope
So wrap it tight around your throat

[Guitar Solo]

[Outro]
So bury me in memory around your throat...
and Pete Wentz has some pent up anger under all that makeup.

Roller Coaster

Quote:
[Chorus]
Breathing deeply, walking backwards
Finding strength to call and ask her
Roller coaster, favorite ride
Let me kiss you one last time

[Verse 1]
Leave me standing here, act like I'm not around
The coast will probably never clear, can I please go home now?
I had that dream about you again
Where I wait outside until you let me in, and there I stayed...

[Verse 2]
Lay beside me and listen at the wall
We'll keep on lying until the summer comes
I had that dream about you again
Where you drive my car right off a ****ing cliff

[Chorus]
And now I'm breathing deeply, walking backwards
Finding strength to call and ask her
Roller coaster, favorite ride
Let me kiss you one last time, goodnight

[Instrumental Bridge]

[Bridge]
Make me promise that I will never tell
All I remember is the way her bedroom smelled
I had that dream about you again
Where I wait outside until you let me in

[Chorus]
And now I'm breathing deeply, walking backwards
Finding strength to call and ask her
Roller coaster, favorite ride
Let me kiss you one last time, goodnight, goodnight...

Re: The 10 best pop punk songs

Longview

Quote:
[Instrumental Intro]

[Verse 1]
I sit around and watch the tube, but nothin's on
I change the channels for an hour or two
Twiddle my thumbs just for a bit, I'm sick of all the same old ****
In a house with unlocked doors, and I'm ****in' lazy

[Chorus]
Bite my lip and close my eyes, take me away to paradise
I'm so damn bored, I'm going blind, and I smell like ****

[Verse 2]
Peel me off this Velcro seat and get me moving
I sure as hell can't do it by myself
I'm feeling like a dog in heat, barred indoors from the summer street
I locked the door to my own cell and I lost the key

[Chorus]
Bite my lip and close my eyes, take me away to paradise
I'm so damn bored, I'm going blind, and I smell like ****

[Bridge]
I got no motivation, where is my motivation?
No time for motivation, smoking my inspiration!

[Verse 3]
I sit around and watch the phone, but no one's calling
Call me pathetic, call me what you will (We will!)
My mother says to get a job, but she don't like the one she's got
When masturbation's lost its fun, you're ****ing lonely

[Chorus]
Bite my lip and close my eyes, take me away to paradise
I'm so damn bored, I'm going blind, and loneliness has to suffice
Bite my lip and close my eyes, I'm tripping away to paradise
Some say quit or I'll go blind, but it's just a myth

Re: The 10 best pop punk songs

Nice, I'm liking the instrumental intro theme.

Carousel

Quote:
[Instrumental Intro]

[Verse 1]
I talk to you every now and then
I never felt so alone again
I stop to think at a wishing well
My thoughts send me on a carousel
Here I am standing on my own
Not a motion from the telephone
I know not a reason why
Solitude's a reason to die

[Chorus]
Just you wait and see, as school life is a
It is a woken dream, aren't you feeling alone?
I guess it's just another, I guess it's just another
I guess it's just another night alone

[Verse 2]
Now as I walk down the street
I need a job just to sleep in sheets
Buying food every once in a while
But not enough to purchase a smile
A tank of gas is a treasure to me
I know now that nothing is free
I talk to you every now and then
I never felt so alone again

[Chorus]
Just you wait and see, as school life is a
It is a woken dream, aren't you feeling alone?
I guess it's just another, I guess it's just another
I guess it's just another night alone
