Ok, I did some math on this but I used a 6737 player field with 10k buyin and 6% rake and 15% paid with 1.5x min cash vs 10% paid with 5x min cash.
An average player will have an ROI of -6%. But the after tax ROI, based on USA tax rates would be -27.87%. With 5x min cash, 10% paid, the ROI stays the same at -6% pretax but is only -26.15% aftertax due to the flatter payouts at the final table.
A rec player with a -15.35% ROI under the 15% payouts, will have an after tax ROI of -34.4%. But this same player under the 5x min cash and 10% payouts will have a pretax ROI of -13.97% and an after tax ROI of -31.96% due to the flatter payouts at the final table.
39.18% of the total pool went to the final 9 when 15% were paid, and 26.16% of the total pool went to the final 9 when 10% were paid. 39.18% is a staggering percentage considering the final 9 only make up 0.134% of the 6737 player field.
