Why play MTTs? Why play MTTs?

Over the past two months, I've just totally stopped caring about MTTs, specifically NLHE MTTs.

How disinterested am I in NLHE MTTs?

I wouldn't even care about winning the WSOP ME. If Jerry Yang can win it, how prestigious can it be? You have to run good to win any NLHE tournament. Why subject yourself to so much variance? Why spend 3 hours on an online tournament just to bubble? Or win your buy-in back?

Another thing: Like Mike Caro said in an article (not that his NLHE advice is flawless), if you win a poker tournament, you get penalized by having to share the prize pool. This alone makes me think poker tournaments are just silly in general.

So! Simple question: why should I or anybody else play MTTs, especially NLHE MTTs?

(I should note that I don't totally avoid all tournaments. I play the 210 FPP satellites on Stars for "rakeback" and I enjoy heads-up SNGs. I still find myself playing HORSE tournaments from time to time, as well.)

Cuz we like the sense of accomplishing something in poker on a given day, finishing out on top, being broke and turning into an instant millionaire after 7 hrs of play. Where else can you play 200 bucks and turn it into 200k? I doubt you can do that at a cash table in 10 hrs...but yes, it's not the best route to make a ton of money.

You don't just win a little money, you win a membership card to the elite MTT club. You'll be able to joke around with top MTTers, be acknowledged, be worshipped, etc. All cash players get is a ton of money.

Because it's ridiculously easy to be a winning player?

Cash games are hard now, especially high stakes cash games (and medium/small stakes nl games are full of regs). Low and medium stakes donkaments are easy to beat and you can win a decent amount of money and feel good about yourself...beat's Mcdonalds!

Cash games are easy if you just learn all the games. Then you can do hit-n-runs all day long. Just keep switching games. That's what I do. I don't even play NLHE. NLHE makes me want to vomit.

Tournament is the ultimate battle ground for a poker player. You all start on an even playing field... The only thing left is variance (luck for most) and skill. So you can battle against Phil Ivey and his billion dollar bankroll without having a billion dollar roll yourself. IMO this is true poker.

Cash games are fine, and a good way to make $ also... But in most cash games the playing field is not equal due to $. Even if you are properly rolled for lets say 5-10 nl. You play with the reg. Which are made up of (probably) 1-3 younger people who play for a living, 1-3 people who shouldn't be playing that high, 4-6 older people who are either retired/own their own business/overly wealthy. Which could be a good or bad thing depending on their level of play and or luckbox ability.

I personally play 20-40 hldm at foxwoods. Limit is different, i understand... But my point behind all this is that tournaments are pure poker and nothing else matter besides what transpires in said tournament.

Weeding your way through the Main Event field to final table it and win, is the ultimate cinderella story that every poker player dreams could happen to them. Like you said, hey if jerry yang/jamie gold/ all the other bad players that have one did it... Why not me?
