50bb is definitely enough to open it.
However, in general hands like 78s need at least 2 and likely 3 streets to realize their equity, so if you drop to around the 30-40 range it is not a great open from early, although it is fine from late position (HJ+).

Author believes an all in pot with a <50BB stack is not a big enough reward for the rarity of 78s making a nut or near nut hand.
