Thoughts on slowplaying Thoughts on slowplaying

When you flop (or turn) a strong hand, but not a monster, is slowplaying going to be more profitable than straightforward play? I'm talking about flopping/turning a two pair, a set, a straight or medium strong flush. Ofc it depends on the situation, but in general, what do you think?

How long is a piece of string?

Well it really does depend: what are the depths of stack, is it a wet board, how many other players are in the pot, what is the villain type? I am more inclined to bet out as usual rather than slow play. I guess I am more likely to slow play it is stacks are small, the board is dry, the villain is aggressive and the pot is heads up. But I think in the long run betting out is going to win you more chips.

In general I need a good reason to slow play. Straightforward betting is fine most of the time.

WAY too many factors for this to be anywhere close to a simple answer. Here are (some of) the questions you should be asking yourself though.

What was the preflop action? Were you the raiser? If so, have you been c-betting a lot? What is V's fold to c-bet %age? If he was the pf raiser, what is his c-bet %age? Do you have reason to believe he would double barrel air?

Have you seen V stack off marginally postflop before? Does he bluff a lot?

What's the texture of the board? How vulnerable is your hand? Does the board hit your perceived range? Does it hit villain's?

What position are you in? How effectively deep are you? What is your image? What is his? Where are you at with regards to the bubble?

In general, it depends...

Yeah I realized this is somewhat impossible to answer to generally
