Is it possible to grind MTT's for a living without rakeback?

Hello guys,

my country deleted casino/pokerbonuses due to new regulations...

is it still possible to grind this for a living or should I just move to another country?

depends on your cost of living 100%
if you want to move anyway you can get into a cheaper country and live easily even w/o rb but still get those as a bonus

if you win enough to cover your lifestyle you can do it. where i am i can earn more than $20 US a hour just with a entry level job so playing poker professionally doesn't make much sense.

If you want to live in asia or eastern europe then yes. If you expect to be living like a king, unless your insanely good at poker and can beat mid/high stakes then's there's probably better options to choose. The downswings and variance can be soul destroying. Many people have made 100K one year then absolute zilch the next.

Serious question. If someone is a really good player, isn't it highely unlikely they have a breakeven year if they put in some solid volume (Think 30 mtts a day 5 days a week and say 45 weeks out of the year [say they play 6-7k mtts in a year].

If someone was taking the game seriously and studying, etc and not playing at too high of a level for their skill level, i feel they should have a winning year if they are putting the study in, etc. I'm sure they can have breakeven years or even losing years but i feel a very small % of the time.

Just ran a sim of 30% roi playing 7k tournies at $22 buyin. Probability of loss is 23%. Average field size i used was 810 and 10% paid. I'm sure the elite poker players will have ROIs way above 30%- prolly 50-100% but obv not at high stakes.

i dont think you can every make a living relying on rakeback for small stakes... High Stakes the money would ass up but only if your playing 30 tournaments a day.

Hey listen Iím good enough to pro but my wife is worried we canít afford what I set aside for my bankroll and thinks it should be a little smaller. Anyone have advice on what to look for in a divorce attorney?

anyway rakeback in MTT's is not that important, so you shouldnt worry about it. Rakeback shouldnt make more than 2% of your earnings anyway, its not cash game.

That's scary you can play 7k tourneys with 30% roi and lose 1/4 of the time
And field size on stars will prob be >810

30% roi is too high for the avg mtt grinder these days as well , I think.

Plus try playing your best day in , day out for months at a time and getting nothing to show for it. It's brutal and prob will affect your game

I think the whole idea of playing poker tournaments solely for a living in my situation is stupid. I'm never going to do it.

Playing tournaments and binking a big tournament perhaps taking a decade to do it is more appealing to myself. It may happen in the first big mtt I play.

Even the highest earning live player in tournaments after playing for years was 1.5 million in the hole. a few big tournament scores and hes got 20 million net worth perhaps. Perhaps all from that one tournament in london and playing the aussie millions a few months pre hand and winning the aussie millions main.

Guy seems super happy though and some people might be able to handle that. Most give up and go a start a business promoting makeup to people who wanna wear it instead of being in poker makeup. We don't know the financial situation of that person who starts a facial makeup business but my statement about that is sort of a joke but is the reality of a lot of ex tournament players from what i read. Being deep in debt with no way out unless you quit and starting a business or getting a job might be more profitable than trying to win millions back at poker and makes complete sense.

I'd only play full time If i was making other income like enough to pay my basic bills with a bit extra left over. Also you need some starting capital probably at least 200 buy-ins so you probably want $5000 to start out at 22s.

I play part time though up to 8 hours a day with a job playing only 10-15 mtts a week.

the point: play 200 dollar plus tournies. Starting poker broke is a dead dream waiting to happen. None of the guys you see being big shots in those major buy-ins didn't start broke. And ROI in small MTTs isn't ****. I play on true poker, just for the rakeback. It's needed for the bigger ones.
