One thing I would change though would be to have only a few achievements per month (say 5 or 7) and have them all change after a month. Or maybe add 3 weekly ones with enough points for Moneymaker memorial coins and the likes, just so people always have some reward/award/badge to clear for a few close to meaningless points =)

If you balance it well enough so people have some incentive to play at higher stakes as well this could easily be the best thing ever for game quality.
This could also help promote some of the rarer games on stars. Imagine the action if there was some badge/reward for playing x amounts of hands at stud8 or 2-7, with x ideally being higher for the low levels and lower for the high levels, so people want to suddenly play mid-highstakes games they aren't too familiar with. God so many possibilities!

You might even make a challenge out of it like "complete all easy tasks of the month to get an extra x achievements points" or "complete all medium tasks of the year to get y" like a 500$ cash bonus or a nicer thing from the store, or a wcoop entry or something. Depending on how hard those are it might be more or less.

You can also make so many different challenges, like win 50 pots in No-limit cashgames with 72 or "get 1k/5k/15k in prizes from the 9mans" (which is cool bc people can get it by grinding low or shotting high! or cash in 15 rebuys or whatever. Win 7 headsupgames in a row at 50$+, 10 at 20$+ or 15 at 1-20$.

This looks like a really good system, I'd gladly give away like 500 to 1k in vip earnings if that got implemented well because the value for us would be so much higher over the year.
really like those two posts.

i think it's important to have smart tasks and not just "play 100k hands / month" badges.

This would be an amazing idea if it was implemented correctly.

There definitely would need to be a way to display your achievements though, perhaps around your avatar.

And I love the idea of having weekly/monthly/maybe yearly achievements instead of lifetime achievements because then it keeps it fresh and there's always something to work for.

Eh, maybe I'm an online poker purist or something, but I'm not a huge fan of this at all.

yes, this is also what i was thinking. I also believe that achievements would be a way for people to get volume in in other types of poker. Convince ppl to play more 8game, horse, razz, 2-7 lowball, ect.

sounds good, leave cash games out of it though. Stellar awards are good enough for small volume players.

If done correctly I think this could be fantastic.

Some ideas for achievements:

'Coolest of the cool' - make a royal flush against a straight flush
'Surface of the sun' - win 2000bbs in any 1-hour period
'Unbluffable' - correctly calling on the river with K-high or worse 5 times
'Jamie Gold' - bluff in a 100bb pot 20 times
'Couldn't hit a barn door' - missing 10 flush draws in a row
'Bubble bobble' - busting within 5 of the money in any two mtts in a row
'Poo flingin' - get someone to fold by clicking it back (with min. pot and bet size stipulations obv) 5 times
'Turbo grinder' - acting within 5 seconds for 1000 hands in a row
'The deadliest catch' - take someone's entire bankroll on a cash table
'Trup QQ' - bet KK into QQQ, ****ing moron

while i dont hate the idea, stars already had the best VIP system there is and hitting them up for more rewards seems unnecessary.

The rewards can be pretty minimal. But the system will encourage people to play a lot more which is good for everyone. And it will be fun to chase achievements.

Actually it wasn't, I can't picture too many cash regs wanting 40/0 players to turn into 10/6 players.
