Are playing mtts with thousands of players a waste of time? Are playing mtts with thousands of players a waste of time?

Hi all
It is a waste of time to play mtts such as the mini sunday marathon. Even if I have deep runs it i seemingly impossible to make the final table and get at the big money. I have had a number of top 100 finishes but never final tabled it? POkerstars need more 500 player Cap mtts. 500 is a good number as you need enough players for decent $ but not too many.

The bigger the field the higher your ROI is generally but the variance is through the roof of course. Every mtt over 1000 players somebody wins it so doesn't seem impossible to win one.

Im not sure about this, yes there are more fish in large fields, but in small fields there is a lot more skill because you are navigating bubble and FT payjumps a high % of the tourney. Where massive fields it is mostly just about chip EV 99% of the tourney.

Definitely worthless on Pokerstars given theres no money on the FT anymore bar 1st.

Take your action elsewhere. You won't be able to open fantastically animated $0.04 chests anymore but you'll live.

there’s lots of wonderful “elsewhere” options for MTTs

Answer to OP is yes it is ...in a way. You will likely need to play serious volume of large field MTTs to make a few decent scores and that is most definitely a sad waste of time/life

...

Unless as pointed out ..u enjoy it, but it sounds like you are playing poker to “make money”

I look at it like playing the lotto where I have control of picking the correct minimum amount of numbers before it pays out. The rest is a lot of luck. October I had 4 1sts in small stakes 100+ players ($3-$7 buy ins rebuys on 888) and even in those it took a few bad beats on my part to do it. From my experience you have to play solid while going on a heater at some point in the tourney. Exploiting players and good pre and post flop play will only take you so far.

That's not how we define efficiency of time use.

I enjoy beating my meat and watching reaction vids on Youtube.

Normally I would say no, but with the current payout structure on Pokerstars, it definetly is.

OP is talking about mtts with thousands of players not 100. Massive difference.

This. The pay out structure makes it all a pretty big waste of time on Pokerstars.

+1. Rake alone is reason enough.

I only return to Pokerstars for some Series events that I just enjoy playing because, well, they feel like the nuts in MTT world

I know that. I was saying the ones that big are like winning the lotto. Then I said you even need some luck to win (top 3-5) vs 100+ players. It’s exponentially different in large fields. Jamie Gold won the Main Event.

nothing to do but ride the wave of variance. You could stick to single table sit n gos or small tournaments if you want.

increasing volume will reduce the variance
