Recently played a $585 tournament buy-in and my table was one of the most aggressive I've ever been on. The open raise sizes were often 5-8x in the first couple levels and from more than 1 player. This is much bigger than I'm used to and was wondering if this is a new trend anyone has noticed/employed and what the thinking behind it is.

Seems awful. The reason we make smaller raises is we want to be able to open more hands and bet more flops at lower SPR. By making huge raises it polarizes and you don't really wanna 6x pre then c/f a flop of J83 rainbow when you have 78s but now the double barrel is huge and you don't wanna c/f.

What you can do is if you're deep enough just play hands as if you're calling pre for implied odds and make your range more polarized so more nutted hands flatting and hands that can flop HUGE. So we're talking about PP's, suited connectors and Axs type hands.

These are standard raise sizes in the cash games I play and peeling with just the hands you're talking about is generally what I would do in those games.

Don't know, I've never played a $585 tourney. Seems a better question for the mid-high stakes MTT forum.

Stacks are almost always deeper when playing cash.
