Thanks for the reply... I agree with you.

I already have a pretty good laptop that I used to grind with during 2015. The problems that i have with a laptop is that it always ends up being my main computer (meaning I torrent, go to sketchy websites, and put a lot of wear and tear on it).

I kind of want something that I dedicate to poker, with security being a large reason for this. My thoughts are that I'll just use the laptop more recreationally now. And dedicate the PC to mostly poker.

What are your thoughts?

Edit: I guess i should also clarify- I don't plan on traveling a huge amount. I would predict that I fly with this thing on less than 10 round trips this year.

https://www.virtualbox.org/

Create a virtual machine on your system and do all your non poker stuff in there. That solves your security concerns from watching porn and downloading torrents.

'only' 10 times a year is a lot!

Is there any computer shops you can go to? If you live in a major city you might be able to take it someplace and find a replacement. Sony stopped selling computer equipment like two years ago so you are gonna be hard pressed to find a replacement battery. What you probably will need to find is a working battery from an otherwise broken system.

Hey guys,

seems this thread is not oft-used but have a question about monitors. I just got this laptop http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-...gaming+laptops for grinding and I'm looking to get a 25-27" monitor that can fit twelve tables w/o overlap and tables at a decent size. However my budget is kinda low.

Is something like this http://www.amazon.com/Acer-K272HUL-b...ct_top?ie=UTF8 reasonable or is it a dumb idea to try to get a monitor for this price range, as most of the ones I've seen posted itt for this size/resolution are $500+?

Thx for your input, I'm a bit of a comp noob.

I have a Crossover 30" and a Dell 30" and think the quality of the Crossover is better, it was also a third of the price.

I recently bought this laptop too. Have you had any problems with screen resolution? all my poker clients are small and blurry with the exception of stars which is just blurry. Google chrome is fine.

I'm running U.S.-facing sites so our experiences are probably a bit different. But for me Bovada and Carbon Poker (Merge network) look great, and America's Cardroom is a bit blurry (not that bad though). Generally speaking the resolution is great for me, I'm mostly playing Bovada and I can 8 table on here with very small tables and resolution is great.

I am looking to buy a decent monitor for playing 6-9 tables (for now) mtt in different poker rooms. A lot of people recommend 2560x1440 (27-Inch) at least. But I can see dell has one monitor with the same resolution but 25-Inch (http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraShar.../dp/B00SPWPF1O).
I am afraid that everything will be too small on this res. Does anyone have this ? I will appreciate any input.

Im sure this has come up a bunch before but would really be grateful if someone could help! Bought the standard poker player Dell 30" monitor but my poker laptop doesnt have a DVI port, only HDMI or VGA whereas the monitor is DVI or USB.
Bought a HDMI to DVI cable but the max resolution i can get it 1280 to 800. Thats because thats the max of HDMI right?
If i bought a VGA to DVI adapter would it be much better?
Or do i need to buy a new computer with a DVI port to get the max resolution of the monitor? Or any other options?
Thanks a lot!

Your hdmi slot might not be able to run a 30 inch screen.

Any advice on how to proceed? if i were to buy a new computer what do i need to make sure it has if its not a DVI port?

If you were buying a computer today you'd just look for minidisplayport in general. Someone else more up to date on tech could tell you if/what HDMI can power 30inch.

It should usually be printed on the hdmi cable stating either highspeed or 1.4 or something
Dont know exact details but google how to find if your hdmi cable is Highspeed or not.

for hdmi it's not really the cable thats the problem as it is the input on the laptop. Depends on the system and when it was built. A bunch of laptop makers saved a few bucks for years using old tech when 1080p was considered a high-res screen.
