What for requirements do you need for a computer to 40tabling poker and running HM2 and table ninja 1? I do have now 12gb ram and I7 processor..
My computer slows a bit down when I am around 35-37 tables.

An SSD with your DB on it might help this. What's your other PC specs? Are you 40 tabling on PS only? If you've got Party in the mix it'll kill your PC no matter how good it is.

I do want to play 40 tables on Pokerstars only. I have Windows 7,
- Intel Core i7 processor 2600.
-AMD radeon HD 6450 up to 3819MB
-1 TB Hard drive

Does it matter if I have 16gb ram or 12gb ram?

extremely unlikely that your ram is a problem.

Try something: Run that many tables but without your HUD. Does it run fine? If it does then the problem is your database is crushing your HDD and you should go buy a nice SSD.

Someone who I know says that I have to install new software for the SSD? and that will cost me more.. I want to buy a Samsung 256 GB evo SSD

You could do a few things. You could just install the SSD as a second drive and put your database/HUD + on that drive. You could ghost your current OS onto the SSD and make that your main or you could install windows from scratch on the new drive.

Usually you want to install your OS and progs/db on the SSD, but you could try and just carry over your db and see if that helps (which I think it should).

That said afaik Samsung SSDs come with a cloning tool so you don't even need a Win7 disc.

Preferrably you want SATA3 to connect the SSD to, but even via SATA2 an SSD will show a significant performance increase. Just saying in case your board lacks SATA3.

So i searched up on Cnet and found some with good specs. What do you think of these?

Bit more expensive than i wanted but these look pretty good.

Those all look fine. The curious thing I have about pricing is how expensive those are. Here is the system I bought 2.5 years ago for $800:

Intel® Core™ i7-2670QM
NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M
4GB RAM
640GB (7200rpm) hard drive
16.4" 2D Full HD LCD display (1920x1080)

Now, this Sony was $800 in 2011. The same system with 8GB of ram would be a great poker laptop. Could add a real SSD (that laptops posted here never have off the shelf) to make a perfect poker system.

Maybe the laptop market is in hell right now, but I just don't see why you'd need to spend that much in 2014. Granted we are poker players so whats the value of money, but if you are on a tight budget anything that expensive is overkill.

If I get a really good machine I'll combine my poker with uni so that'll make up for the price and give me more value.

Thanks for your input mate.

I'd pick one of the ASUS's.

Are you planning on installing a SSD yourself post-purchase?
Do you know if any of those laptops have multiple HDD-bays?
(I guess optical drive could be removed/replaced w/ a 2nd HDD if need arises)
Do any of those have Window 7 as an alternative option for OS?

Other than the storage capacity, not much.

I bought and installed my 240gb Ocz something something into my laptop in 2011 and all I have there is OS, apps and HM database (which is kinda huuuuuuge).

Never have I gotten it more than about 50% full.
I think I read somewhere that you don't want your SSD to get too full, tho.
Anyone know if it really hinders the performance?

how difficult was it replacing the hard drive in ur laptop? considering doing the same and getting a new ssd to replace my current hard drive, just wondering how complicated it is to do? did u clone ur exsisting hard drive to the new one or just do a fresh install for ur OS?
***Official Laptop/Monitor/Computer/Grinding Equipment Discussion Thread*** Quote

No difficult at all.

Unscrewing/screwing a couple of screws and disconnecting/connecting the SATA-cable.

That's about it.

Obviously the difficulty (and whether replacing the HDD is even possible at all!) depends on the particulars of the laptop in question.

What make/model do you have?

Regarding OS etc, I've done both (my 1st SSD crapped itself), IIRC Acronis was the software I made the clone with. Currently I run SSD that has a clean install of OS on it.

What did you find?

In case you can't access the primary HDD-bay, you could always replace the optical drive with a SSD.

That's what I did when I wanted to have two HDD's inside. (moved the optical drive into the docking station).

I did a system scan at crucial.com and it came back with the following below, just assumed I could access the hard drive on this machine, havent ordered anything yet, suppose I should check first

Storage:
SATA 3 - 6Gb/s
6% Full (908 GB Total Storage)

SATA Version -- SATA 3 - 6Gb/sStorage Drives -- hard drives and solid state drives -- are the permanent memory for the programs and documents on your computer.

thinking about getting this one

should I order this aswell to clone my exsisting hard drive

Most likely you can but I'd definetely check it out first.

Not that I know a lot about the SSD's today but seems good to me.

The first SSD I bought came w/ a similar install kit and cloning/installing was very easy and everything went smoothly and w/o hiccups.

Something tells me that a clean install might better tho, but that's just a hunch, got nothing to back it up. Prolly doesn't matter much if at all.

I'm sure you can find a source to download it from.
And then burn / copy it on a disc / bootable USB-stick or something.

I'd recommend the 250 if you're running windows and downloading to it, I've got a 250 and still keep having to move files to a normal drive to keep it >50gb.

Good price for that, although just now there is a deal on the SSD3 version of that drive for a very similar price.
I think you could possibly install this alongside your current drive in your laptop because its so small.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B.../?tag=ho01f-21

Size comparison

+1 to clean installs when having a new drive, I tried cloning as well but its not quite the same as a clean install.

this is interesting, I didnt know ssds come in different sizes, are there any performance differences or is it just the size? how would I find out if I can install this alongside my current drive?

ok, just spoke to someone on hp techincal help, hes told me that my system cant take an ssd, does this chat look right? also he said that the machine has hdmi 1.4 but can only handle max res of 19200x1200, does this look right aswell? I thought hdmi 1.4 could run at 2600x1600

2:06 PM MANAS:
I understand.
2:07 PM MANAS:
Please let me know if there is anything else I may assist you today .
2:08 PM xxx:
yeh there is
2:08 PM xxx:
im thinking about changing the hard drive and replcing with an ssd 2.5"
2:08 PM xxx:
will that fit in this machine and am I able to replce the hard drive?
2:09 PM MANAS:
I am afraid you cannot replace the hard drive rather you can upgrade ythe hard drive . Please find below the configurable option for your system.

Supports the following hard drives:
● 1 TB, 5400 rpm, 9.5 mm
● 750 GB, 5400 rpm, 9.5 mm
● 500 GB, 5400 rpm, 9.5 mm and 7.0 mm
2:10 PM xxx:
I dont understand, why cant I replace the hard drive?
2:13 PM MANAS:
Because you cannot upgrade to SSD because SSD is used for a cache purpose and if you want to upgrade to SSD then you need to purchase the separate the OS from Microsoft as because you are using the OEM version of OS which will only work with the hard drive which was shipped with the system.
2:14 PM xxx:
can I not clone the exsiting hard drive to a new ssd drive?
2:15 PM MANAS:
However SSD is not a configurable option for your system.
2:15 PM xxx:
ok so the ssd wont physically work even with a new copy of windows
2:16 PM MANAS:
Yes , you got it now.
2:16 PM MANAS:
Please let me know if there is anything else I may assist you today .
2:16 PM xxx:
ok thanks for the help
2:16 PM MANAS:

Hdmi 1.4 is spec'd for bigger resolutions than 1200p but the problem is that all consumer products (desktops, monitors, laptops, TV's etc.) use type A connectors which are limited to 1200p.

You need Dual-Link DVI, Displayport or Thunderbolt output for 2560x1600.
Or you can use a USB3-workaround (a tiny external GFX-card connected to one of the USB3-ports, think I linked some of those earlier ITT) if ur laptop doesn't have any of the above ports.

HDMI blows.

Re:SSD
I find it hard to believe that you couldn't replace either the original HDD or the optical drive with a SSD and install a copy of, say Windows 7 on it.
Might not find compatible drivers for everything tho.
A long time ago I bought a Vista laptop and installed XP on it although it wasn't officially supported by the manufacturer.
Never found a driver for the webcam. Everything else worked fine tho. Even installed windows 7 on it too when it came out. Everything else worked just fine on that OS too.
