hi,

I am looking to buy a notebook for the occasional grind (12-16 tables, HEM, TN), watching a movie and do some uni work with it.

What do you guys think about this one?

Acer Aspire Ethos 5951G-2678G75Bikk 39,6 cm (15,6 Zoll) Notebook (Intel Core i7 2670QM, 2.2GHz, 8GB RAM, 750GB HDD, NVIDIA GT 555M, Blu-ray, Win 7 HP)

Thanks!

thanks for the input, I'm comparing it to the U3011 can't figure out which one to get? You had any experience with the 30?

Mostly I hear people talk about the advantages of the vertical screen space on the 30 but I don't know if I need all that space if I;m not 34234 tabling.

How many tables do you play on the 27 (i'm assuming you have it at max res)?

again, thanks

Just bought my new laptop after some advice in this topic. Dell Precision M4600. tweaked it a little.. 1 SSD drive 128GB and a 2nd drive 750gb 7200rpm. 8gb internal memory, 15" 1920*1080 res, i7-2760QM (2,40 GHz, 6 MB cache, Quad Core)..

Got to wait a while before it gets delivered though.... Lets see how it works. It can take up to 3 screen directly from the laptop and 5 screens from a docking system..

I will upgrade my 3 yr old Gateway this April/May with this : http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/sams...6177.html?tag=[object%20NodeList];resultsShell

The 17" Gateway was/is a beast, worked flawlessly and made in excess of 100k profit but the ***** weight of it is killing me nowadays. It will make a nice cheap and reliable purchase for an up and coming grinder

Havent had any experiences with the 30inch, sorry.

You can play 12 tables comfortably on the the 27inch tiled.
Its more expensive but when comparing to other 27's its like night/day plus the 2560x1440 is baller.

my M6500 just died, looking for a replacement. Can anyone recommend me a 17" lappy that can run a pretty decent sized HEM database, multiple poker clients(6 tops, probably 18-20 tables at peak) and some light gaming(HoN/SC2/CS:S/CS:GO if i ever get a key)

Living in london at the moment and was surprised to see that the cheapest deal I could get for what i wanted seemed like a customized XPS17 from dell...

Thanks!

I am in need of upgrading my laptop.
I normally 12 table MTTs on stars and use hem as my hud
I don't need anything for gaming or anything, just basic internet use (fb, email, youtube, watch movies, etc.)
I can work with anything between 15"-17"
Trying to keep my budget under $1200 in Canada
Suggestions welcome

Hi everyone, sorry if it's a dumb question but I basically know nothing about computers. I've got a 15" Macbook pro that I'd used to grind on pre-BF. I'm gonna be using it again this summer but want to get an extra monitor to connect to it. Any recommendations? I don't think I'll need some huge 30" monitor, I think a 24" will do.. I don't really know my budget bc I don't know how much a "good" monitor will cost me. I've looked on bestbuy.com and have seen monitors for as cheap as $150, but I've also seen other players saying they've spent 4 or 5 times that much on one. Thanks.

You should be able to get a great 24" under $150.

Right now I'm looking into the Sager NP9150. What are the key differences between retailers like XoticPC, Malibal, etc? Malibal's website looks better which makes me prefer them, but I heard elsewhere that xoticpc is very reliable/good.

Also when it comes to reliability/durability on these custom laptops, would I be better off with paying for the Alienware brand, just so I don't have to worry? My past 2 laptops were ASUS and HP lemons. I treat my computers well and installed fresh copies of windows and everything but they were terrible computers with a lot of problems.

Buying a new work/school laptop. Primary uses will be web browsing, word processing, some MSOffice/Excel, some coding using Ruby and Python. Won't be used for poker at all. Portability is important but I don't want to sacrifice durability or longevity for the sake of weight savings. I have numerous external drives as well as cloud storage so I don't need a large hard drive. I want something that will last 3 or more years without needing upgrading or replacement.

I'm looking at the Macbook Pro 13" or 15" and the Macbook Air 13" right now. Seems like the Air has everything I would need and is quite a bit lighter. Is there a PC equivalent that I should be considering?

The new Macbooks SHOULD be coming out in the next couple of months.. and I def give them a thumbs up, esp if budget is not a huge issue. The MBA should have a sick resolution too.

I read some pages back guys were having trouble with hooking up 30" dell monitors to laptops.I am looking at this 1920 x 1200 24" Dell http://www.komplett.ie/Komplett/prod...i/details.aspx and wondering will I get the full resolution hooked up to my 3/4 yr old Toshiba with ATI Radeon GC?

Is it a general problem with Dell monitors or specific to the 30" high res?

Thanks

Specific to the 30s because of the connections they require. Any 24 should work with any laptop

Ultrabooks - basically a range of PCs that copy the MBA model.

I believe the Ivy Bridge (newest generation of Intel processors) range of Ultrabooks should be out around June 6th. These will offer faster speeds with (slightly?) better battery life compared to Sandy Bridge (current) models.

I would wait to see what is announced, and then decide if you want to buy a new model or buy a superseded model for a discount.

I bought a Refurbished 17" MBPro last month and have to say I am very happy with the purchase. Most expensive laptop I've ever bought and the interface took a little getting used to but other than that it just ****s on any other laptop I've owned. 1920x1200 res is absolutely huge for mtts obv.... only beat is i had to buy a $50 adapter to go from thunderbolt to hdmi because this lappy doesn't have a HDMI port lol wtfz.

Bought last month when 2+2 was down, price was HK$10,400, approx US$1,333:

Asus A45V 14" laptop
CPU i7-3610QM
RAM: 8MB RAM (changed to 16MB)
Graphic card: Geforce GTX630M with 2GB RAM (3D mark doesn't seem to work with this card yet and I don't play games on PC, so I don't even know how fast it is)
Hard disk: 1TB SATA (added 240GB SSD)

(My original 2+2 a/c lamma888 was registered with an email address that I no longer used, so I could not do the password recovery stuffs after 2+2 was up again, and then I re-registered with this one)
