3) Good motherboard; 8gig of good ram (branded); strong processor (i5 sandybridge probs); at least 120gig SSD for OS - probably go for intel, or do your research on whichever is the most reliable. those are your key components, the ones on which you pay for what you get and if you want reliability and speed you should be prepared to pay lots.

4) i don't know about the price difference but i'm sure it would be offset by shipping costs, or even if it's not, give yourself time to do this properly.
Does this look like its good for my purposes? Do you think its very overpriced in comparison to what I'd pay in NA?

does it make much of a difference if my monitor has 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 solution?

i plan on getting 2x 24s and the latter solution is moar expensive...

thx for input, i actually wasn't using HDMI before and went and picked one up for 5$ and it fixed the problem. I find the visual quality is much higher than the vga and dont really care that much that it steals the sound

And worth every penny if you value your eyes!

I think you Euro so take a look at the Samsung 2443BW...those 51 reviews can't be wrong....I had 4 of these myself and was well impressed for the $$.

http://www.amazon.de/Samsung-SyncMas...6748989&sr=8-1

1080 res is a special res for TV for adaptation of 16:9 cinema movies - don't buy a TV for your pc, get a monitor (1900 x 1200 pixels)

HDMI should be a better image than VGA (digital vs analog)

those extra pixels make a huge difference for poker, i'd never buy a 1920x1080 monitor to play on

Samsung all the way for 20-24" monitors, I have a 2443BW and a 245B and they both rock.

Seems very overpriced, I don't know € prices but I can't imagine they're much more than £.

In practice (for poker, at any rate) it's not.

Can't really remember the exact term.

Likely I'm just wrong and talking smack tho .
I had some issues with my ATI video card where the HDMI looked significantly worse then DVI or displayport. Had to fiddle with the catalyst control panel to get it working correctly with the under/overscanning tab. There shouldn't be any discrepancy of quality between the digital outputs so its more than likely a setting/driver issue.

If you really want a poker monitor, spring for a 30in and you won't regret it. 2560x1600 is just so so sexy.

So is it unanimous that 24in 1920-1200 > 27in 1920-1080?

Working on a $400 budget trying to get something pretty nice..

Seems like the VAST majority of monitors are 1080p so it's hard to find any good 1200 ones.

Thanks!

Yes, you can fit more tables more comfortably on the 24 than the 27.

Does anyone know if screens such as this one in the picture (the red one) exist?

I'd like to get a 3rd screen but all screens are too wide. I already have 2x 30 inchers and I'd need just a tiny one. The problem is that even the tinies screens are too wide for me cover all three of them properly. So are there screens that would be vertical instead of horizontal (high but not wide)? Or is there anything else like that I could do?

Many monitors are rotatable and the software to do that is on W7. For example both my samsung 24"ers do so. I'll let others chime in as to whether you want a 24" or a 27", I expect it's 24" tho.

Oh awesome.

I don't even care if the resolution is much different or whatever, I just need space in the middle so that I can have a concentration space for whatever is deep.

You may only want a 20-22 incher for that especially since you specified something small

well its one of those that matches up with the 30 inch- pretty sure 24 inch wud be jutting over the top. Also ideally the monitor wud have the same or at least similar pixel pitch so table doesnt appear too big on the middle screen and whatever

In a way it's cool if the table is bigger, it'll help me concentrate even more. Are there any compatibility issues other than that the pixels/reso may appear out of scale compared to other screens? Like all screens work with other screens right?

see this... http://hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=...ostcount=15603 ...you're looking for a Dell 2007FP (it's 20" 4:3, not the 2007 WFP 16:9 widescreen) and need to run it at 1600 x 1200 res in portrait mode to slot it in between the 30's at same pixel size

I'm assuming the 2 30's you refer to are monitors (not 1920 x 1080 TV's) running at 2560 x 1600 resolution??

Monitors rotated in portrait mode will display just as clearly as in standard landscape mode. I used to play with a 20|30|20 setup (with the 20s in portrait). You want to find something with a 1600x1200 resolution.

... and as I right this I realize that 16:10 aspect ratio seems to be getting replaced. The euro marketplace might be different so look around. Anything 1600x should fit well.
