Have you got all the latest drivers installed?

Oh okay. I'm not saying you are wrong or anything but when I saw that the picture quality on my monitor was worse with HDMI I did some googling and remember finding a couple of articles saying that HDMI is generally worse as it has less dots per area or something like that. Can't really remember the exact term.

Likely I'm just wrong and talking smack tho .

Re: ***Official Laptop/Monitor/Computer/Grinding Equipment Discussion Thread***

Looking for a new laptop.

My needs and requirements:
playing up to 30 tables
Option to plug 1 or more monitors on the side
Easily run HEM or PT with a ton of hands in the databse
Run 6 to 7 clients if necessary
Enough hard drive space
MATTE (non reflecting so I can sit outside or be flexible) screen.

The bold part is where I get stuck the most. For now only found Macbook pro 17" with extra option for non-reflecting screen...

Any idea's?

^HP Elitebook 8760W or Dell Precision M6600
Both are excellent machines and > MBP imo.
Get one w SSD obv
or if u care about the buck, buy SSD separately and install it urself. (That's what I did)

E: Previous versions, 8740W and M6500 are great too and can maybe be found used at a reasonable price.

They're both digital, how much difference can there be?
HDMI (ver 1.3, typical in computers) is capped at 1920x1200 resolution so in that regard it's < than DVI (Dual-link-version of it).

Yup. But not so much if u choose regular screen instead of DreamColor, regular screen is top-notch as well.
Macbook Pros and M6600 are overpriced too.
But quality doesn't come cheap, unfortunately.

Anyhoo, prolly much better value in bying a used 8740W or M6500. (They actually have 1200p screens too, instead of 1080p).

Yeah, I guess they're solid too.
But unfortunately they don't make 17-inchers anymore, Thinkpads at least.
Used W701 or W701-ds might be good.

Haha feel free to be as aggro as you like, I'll get over it . I'm actually glad I've been corrected, since I know now that there must be another reason why the picture quality on my HDMI connection is so much worse than DVI. Cheap HDMI cable maybe?

I tried to find the article that I was talking about earlier but obviously couldn't. So it's likely I either dreamt that **** up or the article was just dodgy as hell lol.

As long as the res is 1920 x 1080 there should be no difference. Dual link DVI can carrry higher res. Your cord may be dodgy?

1920 x 1200 better than 1920 x 1080. The output at 1080i/p, especially for poker tables is way worse, not to mention less tables than a 1920 x 1200. HDMI is outputting a max res of 1920 x 1080...use the DVI port evens if it's only a DVI-I it'll output at a higher resolution.

Dual link (DVI-D) can carry 2560 x 1600 but that's only relevant if he's running a 30" monitor and has a graphics card that runs at this res.

See www.firsttimepokerplayer.com/online-poker/hardware/monitors/

The above is also the reason why an LCD TV wouldn't be a good larger alternative for a 30 inch monitor: because the resolution of a TV does not exceed 1920 x 1080 pixels you simply can't fit as many tables on it.
