SSDs are so expensive and so awesome but I'm not sure they're worth it (for poker)

Maybe a for a mega cg grinder..

Gimmea ***** break, all the hi end expensive configs are for gaming and hitech design or other stuff that we don't do ..

The Doggz config could use more RAM since HEM eats a lot of it and it will make things smoother as well with a better graphics card + more ram

As far as the I3, its more than enough
I've had my desktop for over 2 years with no plans to upgrade, and my macbook pro for almost 2 years also with no plans to upgrade. I don't buy POS computers specifically so I won't have to upgrade every year or w/e. Running a massive HEM database, TN, 4 poker sites, and other applications is a huge drain on my laptop with 4 GB RAM, but on my desktop with 8 GB it's okay. Things will only get more resource intensive as time goes on so why have problems down the road when it's only a few hundred $ more for a non POS desktop.

How much did you pay? I couldn't find any good dell deals.

Huge graphics card for a laptop. I highly doubt you'll need such a big one, I'd downgrade and save some money unless have some very specific reasons for getting it...

I didn't say I wouldn't (am not in fact) do the same but I'm not a tech freak and hungry every 6mo for w/e is new on the market. I think you misunderstood me , currently have an i5 2.7 quadC, 8ghz, 1.5T in 3 drives one SSD and a nice radeon HD5770 1gb which works perfect for all my needs. I'm a Gygabite fan so the MB is that and haven't had any issues w/e for the past year and a half.

windows 7 on the other hand.... makes me wish I was a Mac user. Also I did have the same problem with my laptop which is/was a beast (quad , 4gb, 1gb nvidia card etc) when running stars/tilt/ipoker/ps.fr/ftp.fr and a microgaming site +HEM

Nowadays it wokrs fine for Ps/ps.fr/party/other french sites

Yep. And on pretty much everything that isn't food or children's clothes.

SSDs so so important if you want to run multiple programs, I can 50+ table with a hud, music and porn and I haven't looked back.

Also programs run noticeably faster too. Just gotta be really careful with what you put on it, obviously storage space is an issue.

Bought a Lenovo T520 with quad i7, 6GB RAM, 500 GB HDD, 1GB NVIDIA 4200m and a 15" screen. Came to 1034$ total on Black Friday. Wondering if I should've picked up the Dell XPS 17 instead. Cheaper by ~ 200$ and possibly better config (1TB HDD, 8G RAM and NViDIA 555m). Have had problems with Dell before so was biased towards Lenovo...now in the post-buying-confusion-regret mode.

My current setup (used for poker almost exclusively atm)

Windows 7 64bit HP
i5 2500k (considering learning how to OC)
8gb g.skill ripjaws that are supposed to be 9-9-9-24 but are reported as 11-11-11-28, meh
ASUS P8P67-M Pro
Radeon HD 6450 1GB (definitely the weak link but I don't do any gaming and it can handle 2x23" @ full res no problem)
Samsung F3 1TB
Intel 120GB 320-series

I can't use computers that don't have SSDs anymore, they just frustrate me too much after using this PC. Running a ton of crap on it as well as HEM and multiple sites and it's still a dream after 3+ months. I've built 4 PCs this year, including one for mement mori which he appears to be very happy with.

Regarding SSDs, as poker players we should value reliability over performance. If you're going for a pure SSD (not a hybrid, don't know enough about those) definitely go with Intel. It's simply that the cost of downtime is so much more important to us than gamers. Unless, that is, you're super-baller and go for a RAID configuration.

How are you guys with laptops dealing with smaller screen resolutions? Are you using secondary monitors?

Part of my laptop search involved excluding so many units that had small screens even if they were good value.

I'm using 32' TV

Spoiler:

but it has only full HD resolution Nowadays I'd buy sth smaller, but with higher resolution... and HDMI is a must too, unfortunately I don't have it in my old Vaio

WTB: Laptop which I can tile 4 tables on with no overlap (6 with no overlap would be amazing). Do not want a VAIO.

Budget: £700

Suggestions and advise much appreciated

I'm guessing most stack. I'm having the same problem with my search as you tho, complicated more by the fact that I need display port to run my 30". it seems like Dell has the only reasonably priced laptops with mini display port and I was really hoping to avoid Dell. Blah.

Looking into getting an SSD...anyone have suggestions?

AMD Athlon II X4 620 processor 2.60GHz
6GM ram
64 bit

Also I checked my "windows experience rating" and it's like 3.8... tried to google how to improve this, but I'm falling short. With 20 tables, tableninja, HEM and browser running my comp lags hard and I can hear the fan chugging hard.
