Multi tabling - how to stucture a session Multi tabling - how to stucture a session

I've recently got up to 9 tables playing MTTs and am really enjoying it.

Anyway, I wanted to know how to structure a session properly - at the moment I seem to just always be trying to have 9 tables on the go throughout my entire session until a cutoff reg time I have set.

Obviously I think this might be affecting deep runs and how much concentration is going into them etc.

If you are going deep in a tournament do you just not reg another mtt until that one is done?

Do you keep maximum number of tables but just 90% focus on the deep run?

Love some advice!

Hello, for sure you should definitely be capable of focusing on deep runs properly. If you can do this while keeping your table at max, only you can know this, so there is not a correct answer to give.

As for structuring a Session though, I would advise you planning a schedule instead of just regging out of the blue. You can roughly guess how many tables you have at x time. This will also enable you to be more time-efficient - obviously stopping to register entirely at a specific time is not very time-efficient, you should first stop to reg Deepstacks, then regular structure, then turbos, then Hypers. This span will be off of each other by several hours, depending on your length of session etc., but there is just no reason to stop regging entirely and then be sat with 2 tables of Deepstack MTTs that are barely at mid-stage. So basically you set a desired finish time (latest time you would be able to play until) and then you stop to register the regular structure MTTs 6-7 hours prior that time, 4 hours for turbos, 2 hours for Hypers (just an example, largely depends on the site you play at obviously). Planning ahead a schedule will help you with this.

Best of luck

Thanks for such a great response!

I've never thought of it like that in regards to reg times.

I'll give that go

Most of the time, planning a schedule (with games you always play, maybes, and fillers if you bust many early) has been more fun for me than actually playing it

haha I did that for yesterday's session - although I ended up feeling like I didn't care if I busted as I would open up a slot for the next juicy MTT on my list!

Pretty sure having 10 MTT's per hour to reg on my list isn't 'selecting' too well...

I think I seriously lack small field MTTs - might try and get more of them in.

It was especially enjoyable for me, because I mostly played Omaha and Mixed MTT's at serious stakes, but mixed in some NLHE of 22$ and lower for the times I busted bigger Mixed ones early. Depending on my run the last days/weeks, I either scheduled small field reg-speeds up to 11$ when downswinging, or big fields including some turbos up to 22$ when upswinging.
Went pretty well for 3-4 years (few losing months), until a lot of **** happened within 2 months (legislation in my state banning nearly all sites, plus 3 terrible things IRL), and my backer and I agreed to end our deal.

I recently transitioned to playing online MTTs daily and have been working on structuring sessions. Here are some of the thoughts I have on it.

1. Have a planned schedule listed out. Become familiar with your preferred site(s) daily schedule so you know what MTTs happen on what days. I think it is good to know exactly what MTTs you are going to play on a given day before you turn on your computer.

2. Playing your A game on your deep runs (top 1% - 2% of field) needs to be prioritized over maintaining a certain active table count. One FT run > a handful of min cashes and maybe a few top 10% runs. I prefer allowing my table count to decrease as session progresses which creates a natural whittling down of games as certain runs become deeper. If you're on the final 4 tables with 0.75x average stack in a 1000 runner field, I think it can be counter productive to be kicking off new tables and be faced with early stage decisions.

3. Mass tabling has a certain appeal, but can often lead to auto piloting. I will max 6 table, and when doing so, I will catch myself playing a style where I am essentially hunting for the top of my range so that I can bet for value and if I do not see such a spot, I will fold and move onto the next table. This is a very basic and easy style to play against and I tend to gloss over important nuances/factors. Being able to pay attention to hands that you're not in is important because people give off info on how to beat them in future pots.

Yeah I'm good at this

I'm terrible at this - just keep regging and so much focus lost on deep runs

Definitely an issue, very easy to do and although early game it's not so much of an issue. If you are auto-piloting with 50 players left that certainly is, and something I do way too much.
