DO BOTH FFS. Pick the games that are best for your to play putting in the hours/tables that you can.

Idk why e1 has to be so narrow minded lol. You can do volume AND improve... You don't HAVE to grind volume to improve. I mean, this is so stupid arguing about all of this. Each to their own, everyone's different etc.

OP,

I'd suggest taking a look at this thread

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/61...lator-1019988/

and play around with the variance simulator tool. Its a great way to get an idea of how field size/ROI/volume will affect your variance in MTTS. Playing low stakes large field tournaments is an absolutely variance fest. I ran 10 simulations (.99 confidence interval) with an avg bi of $20, 30% roi with an average field size of 2k players over 10k games:

You could lose 18k or win 138k over 1 year of MTTs.

Keeping all those things equal but change the field size to 350 players (my avg field size playing euro sites)

You will win at the minimum 19k with a max of 100k.

Of course, it would be next to impossible to play 10k games with strictly euro sites and there is potential to beat them for better than 30% ROI.

So, even if you put in a lot of volume you could potentially lose for a YEAR let alone a few months. However, with proper game selection and smaller fields you can def mitigate the variance.

try a .95 confidence interval and your range will go down to more sane levels. Also, you better be beating $20abi for more than 30% roi if you are playing AFS of 2k.

I think that game selection and improving your game is more important compared to volume. Like many have already said, getting to HSMTT's should be the end plan. Everything you do to get there should be considered to be an investment.

It's much better to play 3K games while drastically improving in skill, rather than playing 10K games mindlessly, making more money but being stuck at low/mids forever. I guess both arn't necessarily mutually exclusive, but mass tabling does stunt growth as a player.

Budgdeting seems like a nightmare, tho at least $1k/month seems doable with ROI 35% at $30 abi and 5k per year

Does the volume question here from this thread a while back still apply to now? Is 10000 mtt a year really the minimum? That would be like 800 mtt a month. Say you play 5 days a week... you need to play on average around 40 mtt per day. Or if you play 6 days a week, that is around 30 mtt a day. Playing 30 mtt a day would not be hard if say at least 5 or more are turbos or maybe even hypers. But do most full time grinders really play that many mtt a day at least which are not turbo/hypers?

The thing is if someone plays 30 mtt a day, how many mtt are they playing at once? So if they have 8 tables or say 12 tables going... then any upcoming tournaments they still plan to reg or already regged, they just unreg it? I see people talk about playing 50 mtt a day.. that seems insane unless a lot of them are turbos or maybe even hypers? You could easily get up to 20 tables at once and i know most people do not play that many tables at once. People mention they play up to 8 tables or 12 tables and some 18 tables at once. But if you plan to play 40 mtt for the day, do you reg all of them first and then unreg when necessary... meaning when too many tables? Or you just reg as you go after each break? Also someone here mention playing any hots doesn't do anything for volume. But aren't those tournaments good in that they end much faster? I do not understand why people say hots are not worth it.

How many mtt daily do high stakes mtt players play on average? For example i would search for certain players on stars etc and those who play high stake mtt... i rarely if ever see they have more than 8 tables going at once... usually its max 6. Sometimes they might have 12 but is rare. I know if you play high stakes mtt, you have to keep table count low. But wouldn't mean for people who play high stakes mtt... they probably don't get more than say max 20 mtt a day at the max? Its probably like 10-15 total only since they have to put lot of focus in it?

But the low-medium stakes players... well they could play 18 table at once and probably put in 30-40 mtt a day? The main issue i see here is when you have too many tables going on... do these players just unreg the other mtt they plan to play or not reg it if they have many tables going on?

The other thing is people say avoid big field tournament and lower average field size. I understand that logic because of variance. But what is like the perfect spot for field size for mtt? Basically 500 players or less? Because if that is the case, aren't these always going to be the most reg infested and toughest games out there? Also when i look at lot of the other mtt players who play low and medium stakes, they play a ton of those big fish tournaments on 888 and the partypoker tournaments and on stars... hots, bigs, bounty builders etc. But all these... the field size are huge. Don't all the full time mtt players play the big tournaments on stars/party/888?
