I have a question and looking for other's opinion on this.

If someone is sitting out in a tournament or sitngo then should they be able to double up? I have seen on a certain poker site where someone can be sitting out the entire time and get blinded down to nothing but when it gets to the point they are all in their hand is not dead. Their hand is still active and can win a hand when the player isn't even playing. I have always been under the impression that anyone sitting out/inactive that their hand is dead. Same goes in a live game.

What do y'all think? Should an inactive player be able to double up if he is all-in due to the blinds or should his hand be dead?

yeah you're right, there are situations on Stars where an absent player can double up and it really ought not to be possible. I don't play FTP any more but I recall their default was to always show down cards when an absent player was all in, which led to empty seats winning pots all over the place in the monthly freerolls, but that stupid rule may since have changed.

I'd go further and say anyone who's sitting out when cards are dealt ought not to be able to sit back in and play that hand, but that little quirk has been around forever.

I played on Pokerstars before the US shutdown but don't remember absent players being able to double up. Either way I think that even if a absent player is all in then their hand should be dead and they are eliminated at that point.

America's Cardroom is saying they are looking to change that but no ETA. I wish all sites would make this change. Just my opinion.

It's a pretty niche situation:

on stars if you're sitting out in the BB and have less than one BB, your hand will be folded if anyone either limps or raises UNLESS it folds to the SB. The SB is only given the option of completing, and the cards are then shown down.

On Americas Cardroom if the player sitting out in the blind is forced all in then no matter what happens preflop his hand is not dead and he could double up. This is the response I got from the Product Manager.

Hi, just got a reply: "This is a very rare thing because generally if this happens they don’t get as far as the bubble. Although this is in future plans to be changed, there is no ETA at the moment. Please be assured that at some time in the future the logic will be changed but as for now there is nothing we can do to change it. "
