It's not unusual for a decent player to break even or lose after 100+ events. Lots of good players have losing years at live MTTs. Some people run way above or below expectation for entire careers.

The answer to be within some reasonable standard deviation of your actualy equity is certainly in the many hundreds. At least enough that you would expect to make the final table several times.

If you play four tournaments and are a basically average player, you are close to a coin flip to cash in one of them.

But while 15% of players cash each event, most of the players who -cash- only make 1.5x-2x the buy-in. So the majority of times you cash in 1 of your 4 events, you will still lose money overall. You generally need to make the top 3% of the field in order to cash for 4x the buy-in.

I would say if you play 4 $1500 events, the breakdown will be something like this:
- 50% fail to cash anything
- 35% cash at least once, but for less than $6000
- 15% cash at least once for more than $6000

Of course, within that 15% is a sliver of a possibility that your one cash is for $600,000.
But you should definitely go into the series expecting to lose money, even if play 40 tounaments, and even if you cash a greater than average number of times in the tournament you do play.

if you’re asking these questions your roi is probably negative but giving the generous assumption of 25% and plugging in the numbers to the site the other guy posted, even after 1,000 tournaments with a field size of a few thousand you’re only about a coin flip to be up money.
