Handling Limpers + Light Calls to 3Bets Pre Flop Handling Limpers + Light Calls to 3Bets Pre Flop

Any tournaments I do are low stakes, typically $70-100, at my local casino in Los Angeles. I find that there’s a lot of limpers and they call light to a 3-bet. For instance, my last tournament I’m in BB with 77 against 5 limpers. Blinds 100/200 with a 200 BB ante, I raise it to 2K to reduce my opponents or potentially take it down pre flop, and all but 1 limper calls. The winner of the hand was UTG with A4o who shouldn’t have been in the hand to start, let alone in a 3-bet pot.

This is probably due to the low stakes I’m playing for tournaments but it’s hard to justify buying in to larger tournaments if I can’t cash these lower stakes.

I know it’s very dependent on the opponents/situation, but do you guys find that the best solution is just to play tighter earlier on until these players are eliminated? Is the solution that simple? Or is there a optimal 3-bet sizing that seems to work for you guys? Mine is typically 3x. Seems like a 3 bet only builds a bigger pot and you find yourself facing the same amount of opponents post flop.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated as I’m in a larger multi-day tournament coming up!

- You dont want to "wait" till these players are busted. They are the ones making you the most profit if your playing it right.

- 77 is a very bad raising hand against sticky players. You put urself in an akward Spot if you dont hit a set or a flop like 456o. Just limp it for set value and get paid from these players who cant fold if they hit anything.

- Playing more aggressive against this type of players is a big mistake a lot of people are doing. The only time you want to play aggressive against this type of players is, if they are overfolding postflop which most of them dont do. You want to be more selective with your raising hands. Raise your AA and other premium hands big, you can even consider pushing hands like AT-AK preflop all in against limpers if the pot compared to your stack is big enough.

- Also limp as many hands which can make the nuts or a very strong hand like AXs, KXs, pocket pairs as possible, dont raise them, they are super strong multiway.

If you hit a strong hand you can usually bet higher against these sticky players. Thats basically it.
