For those of you who don't read the various poker news sources, seemed like a good place for discussion of this new series.

Basically FTP launched a series of 6 events in the US/Europe/Asia with buyins ranging from $100k-$300k, with a grand finale that has a $250k buyin and $1m added by FTP. Best overall points finisher of the series receives a high end luxury sports car. All events will be televised of course as well. Sats will run on FTP starting...tomorrow?

I'd bet a field of 100-200k buyin gets at least 50 players... I disagree with them thinking it's a good idea to market it as the toughest tournament ever. Can't imagine that would make people want to "gamble" with them.

I doubt the people they are targeting really care how 'tough' it is and in a sense would maybe prefer it to be tough, these people want to play with the best in the world

I mean there's only a couple of gazillionaires who are that competitive with their gambling. For the most part though, people want to think they have a real chance. FTP saying it will be poker's elite will more often than not turn people off to the idea of taking shots or risking that much money...

how many online qualifiers do they actually expect for each event? i can't understand how any satellite prizepool will even get to 1 seat unless they are giving away free money

so each 'tour' stop is going to just have 1 100k+ event? i dont get it. why not just get a film crew and meet up in Howards basement for a weekend and knock out the 6 SNGs?

What really needs to happen is MTT's need to have lower buy ins. How many people can really afford to play 10ks? Very few, so a few backers make all the money putting in all the horses.

The "wow" factor attracts the TV audience but the TV isn't giving back the way it did for a long time.

EPT became 1k with 5k high roller. So many people would be able to play the 1k buy in and much more then the people who don't because it isn't big enough.

I mean idk why you guys are hatin on it so much. There is clearly some sort of market for it, and it's good for poker in that it will capture the public's interest when it's televised. Sure most of us won't be playing in it (I certainly wont) but its interesting to say the least.
