My friend and I use to play tournaments where we would split each other's action. We would never soft play each other if we ever wound up at the same table.

Something that came up years ago we both final tabled and told the table we were splitting action and when/if it got to 5 we would offer an equity chop.

Anyways we got to 5 and one guy refused to chop, then we got to 3 handed with that guy who still didn't want to chop. We eventually knocked him out and got heads up. We weren't consciously trying to "target" him but given he was a real a-hole I'm sure we didn't go easy on him either.

I had quit playing poker for a number of years and just recently got back into it and in a conversation i was talking about this with someone. I wanted to see what everyone's thoughts are, should we have done anything different?

Y'all were as transparent as you could be. No stress necessary on your part

You have 50% of each other and that very normal in poker ppl swapping i guess. You dont need to have any worries

I just always keep in mind that someone could decide we're in cahoots and request hand histories. That keeps me honest.

It is an issue that you guys have an unfair advantage over him and the rest of the table. But currently there is no solution.
What you did by being transparent and offer chop was as fair as you be (even though it is still unfair, but there is no solution to this issue yet.)

Exact same issue discussed here:
