Do I Have To Adjust My Ranges Playing Live MTT? Do I Have To Adjust My Ranges Playing Live MTT?

I recently went to the casino (pre-Corona) to play a tournament.

I mainly play online MTT, casual Cash-Game, with some success on Stars.

What I experienced in the casino was absolutely contrarary to my online experience. People limped a lot (and I mean huge time) with all kind of hands and open raised all kind of trash.

I on the other side was focused to play my online TAG style (approx 20/17/2.5). The downside was, that absosutely only trash hands were dealt to me and I kept foldling around. The level structures were 20 min so to make it short, I ended up playing only about 5 hands and the blinds kept bleeding my stake away.

My question is, do I have to widen my range in order to play live MTT? I understand that due to the larger number of hands dealt, the probability of getting a descent hand is larger online in a given time than live.

Cheers

You might want to try one of the MTT forums instead of this one, which is not a strategy forum.

Generally, those fast structure/high fees live MTTs are unbeatable in the long term. But no, don't widen your range, at least not much, or they'll be even more unbeatable. The best answer though, is not to play them unless you can find one with at least 30 minute levels, at most 50% level jumps instead of doubling the blinds each level, and at most 15% tournament fee.

Thanks for your advice...

It felt wrong to adjust my ranges, that'S why I'm asking. Nice to know that somebody adviced from doing so.

About the blind structure: It was a major City-Open, not just a small little casino one. I will have a hard time to find a live MTT with your sugestions about structure, fee etc...

But thanks anyway

Check the MTT-offerings in Schenefeld, as soon as they open up again.
145+5€ Saturday Deepstack used to be a really playable and beatable MTT, for example.
And special series events often have 3-day events from 300-500€ (and sometimes higher).

Cheers, pennypusher

Will do that. Some friends told me already that Schenefeld is a good spot. Probably will go there when they open again.

How many people do play there in an average MTT?

They weekly MTT's were capped in between a max of 40 to 80 players before they closed, iirc.
