I'm a gambling degenerate. I lose money on poker, pool, sometimes (not often these days) pit games etc. It's like asking a smoker "did you have fun". The question is rather meaningless.

Is the 180k significant to you? Where does the money come from. You have a well paying job and are just punting off a % of that ?

I make quite a lot of money at my job, but the gambling losses are a significant %, yes. The gambling losses are not exclusively poker, but latterly it has been that when trying to recoup other gambling losses playing poker tournaments.

Yeah, I know what you mean. At 179,999 I was ambivalent, but at 180, the chest exploded.

I don't think there are any games I consistently win at in gambling terms. I always play for the highest stakes I ca afford in, say, pool (and take credit to play for thousands). I'll put whatever I have on one or two MTTs on stars.

However, I do quite well in my career. I'm a contractor and I earn about $1k a day (converted, I'm not in the US). So, in that respect, I guess it's a win?

I think the better question is how? With an investment of 5k (RYE, Upswing, private lessons, PIO), anyone should be able to at least break even at those stakes.

Maybe, playing sober, that would be possible.

Why spend $5k on poker training when you could save money for a week, play five $1ks on stars, potentially final table a couple and be up money on sharkscope? Plus up your ABI and chalk up the downswing to variance. Hell, play scoop high main easy 1milly in your pocket.


Non trolling aside, what's the highest stakes you've played? Did you take a break for awhile seems like not many mtts played in 2018?

You gunna grind scoop or are the slow structures a disaster for degen tendencies?

I can empathize with you man. There have been long periods where I have been on what seems like a never ending downswing. I tried to lie to myself and say it was just variance... but truth be told the numbers didn't lie.
It seemed like a hangover that would never end... And then ussually around lunchtime it did. I'd eat a sandwich and kickass all afternoon.

I've been busto lately. Surprisingly, even 1k/day doesn't get you that far in Central London after rent, taxes, booze (a lot), smokes, etc. etc. etc.

I set my degen limits on Stars so I can only play 55 MTTs max, but I obv still try to satty into others, so I end up playing in a bunch of 109s+, using the 2x shootout hyper sats (which I am def -EV in).

I sattied into the 5k WCOOP once a couple of years back, and busted JJ < AK in what I still think should have been a righteous hold. Apart from that, I've played a few Thursday Thrills (actually think I might be up on those) and a couple of Super Tuesdays, but I don't do that any more. My best win is ~35k in the bigger 109, when it was still around, a couple of years ago.

Totally agree with your (non-)trolling sentiments, btw! Let's f/en go. No, slow structures are not that bad, I got 25th in the 2-day Sunday Warmup SE of the WCOOP, so I guess I can do stuff.

Poker is ez at least MTTs are, I started playing last year and won 2.5k+ off the bat and played around $25 ABI with no knowledge, I went busto, invested in training and now I'm back at the same level beating the game ez.

That's more than can be said for you.

Looking at your attitude, you DESERVE to lose and you deserve to lose more, basically you have a real alternative:

Invest 2k and 50+ hours in courses

I didn't come here to complain about losing, nor to ask for improvement tips. I came to share an experience. You seem to have taken it upon yourself to suggest ways in which I could improve my game, and when those suggestions were rebuffed, you seem to have got angry.
