With under a minute to go in registration fort he $215 WSOP Double Shootout, and 62 of the needed 63 registered, the tournament gets cancelled? Two gripes here...

1) It seemed to get cancelled even before the registration period was up. Somewhat annoying given we were one person away from having the tournament run.

2) Can't we extend registration for a few minutes or something when we're within one or two people from running? Surely there must be some way to implement this.

Sorry for the rant.

Someone brought up the valid point that you should run the DS anyway and just award $12,400 for first place. I mean heck... if you don't want to call the winner a WSOP Package winner, fine... but at least run the tournament.

Or garauntee the $12,500 package, since ummm with a garauntee it's like way more likely to reach the minimum number

They need to add DS sats to the $215 sats imo

Putting this here as the other thread is getting derailed. My Email to Stars :

"I'm really disappointed that you just cancelled the double shootout because it was ONE player short. If you guaranteed the seat, it might cost you a couple of hundred $ (literally) until it gets going regularly, and if not, why the heck not play it anyway ? Just pay out $ to the winner. If you're not careful people will stop registering and it will collapse, and you'll miss out on a lot of people wearing your shirt this year."

Their response :

"Thank you for your email. The creation of our tournaments is entirely
automated, and if the event does not fill to enable us to fully award the
seat then the event is cancelled. It doesn't make any difference if it is
one player short, or 50 players short, it's just something that happens
automatically within the system.

I hope that clarifies things for you but if you have any further questions
please don't hesitate to get back in touch.

Lame IMO. Note how the response ignores my two suggestions for fixing this. Stars are in serious danger of dropping the ball here. People are annoyed by this, they don't register tomorrow, this snowballs, the tournament gets dropped within a week and Stars miss out on about $70K in rake (60 x $15 x 80 at a conservative estimate) between now and July.

OK so I tried one more time :

"Scott,

You've missed my point. I know how it works the way you have set it up.
I'm suggesting that you set it up differently. At this point you have two
options :

1) Either guarantee the seat or remove the minimum player requirement and
just pay out whatever money is in the pool to first place. Once these get
going and people know that they are going to be held every night at this
time, I'm confident that the fields will soon exceed 63 players anyway and
there won't be an issue

2) Do nothing. Tomorrow you'll get 50 people registering and the tournament
will be cancelled. Within a week, no one will register at all and you'll
have to remove it from your schedule. You miss out on at least $70K in rake
(in my estimation) between now and July, and 100+ people who would have had
the option to represent your site at the WSOP will miss out.

Please think about this. I would appreciate it if you circulate this to as
many of your colleagues as possible."

Response :

"Thank you for your email. These events are not events we would be
interested in offering guaranteed WSOP seats in. We also would not want to
raise the cap on the tournaments as the second it goes even one player
over the current cap a whole extra round is introduced which makes for a
much longer tournament, and which is not what the players signed up for.

We are happy with these events in their current state, and the majority of
them run without any problem. Of course some may be cancelled if they do
not reach the cap, but that is just the nature of that type of event and
that is not something we don't have a problem with at all.

Certainly there is no evidence yet that the events are getting more
unpopular, but if that does prove to be true we will review them again
once there is sufficient evidence to support that.

If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to get back in
touch with us.

Note the completely ******ed part that I have bolded. What has happened to Stars customer support ? It used to be a lot better than this. Well, this is more their loss than mine.

I seem to recall that last year Stars slapped on a guarantee. The reason I remember this was because I definitely played in a couple with some marginal overlay. Was this only during peak times, or always?

Confused how the heck raising the cap is even relevant

It isn't. I give up, I don't know how I could make it any clearer. If this guy does forward it to anyone at Stars who is a bit more clued up and they contact me again, I'll post it here.

rob usually the ones at peak times (the nightly ones) are guaranteed. I agree though, if you slap a guarantee there will hardly ever be overlay. I'll never truly understand this phenomenon but its true.

I'm not sure what's going on with them lately, but they seem to have hired a bunch of support people who either:

a) can't read
b) are too busy to read the messages in full...

Case in point - you were saying "eliminate the cap", not "raise" the cap...

I started a thread a few weeks back in the zoo about a similar topic: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/sh...d.php?t=131708

I'd like to see this happen, or at least for stars to take the question seriously.
