65k after the bink, it was in the very first sunday of 2016 scoop so i played rly high stakes in the next 2 weeks, after that was mostly playing games that i either didnt have an edge or it was very small

i took a look at my performance back in the period and i was winning at 1,5evbb at a 120$~ ABI just absurd lol. Now at a 70$ abi im choosing way better my games and beating at close to 10evbb. Was important for me to go into that swing to realize the importance of selecting well tournaments and to have a good rotine of study and exercise

thanks bro for the share. I believe there are many other $50-100 regs who have taken shots at $1000 SCOOPS and lost a ton. I invite them also to share their stories. Glad you learnt from it sir GL for the future.

I had more than one 300+ BI downswings when I played MTT's full time. I'm a good player who has had coaching from top tier players and the top mindset guys.

Once I got my mindset and my game where I wanted it to be I went from being "numb" to the variance (in a good way I think - Just brushed whatever beats I took off and kept regging) to totally bewildered by individual hand results on the daily where I'd get it in as a 80%+ fav and lose hand after hand day after day week after week. I was not mad, nor was I tilted...Just confused...could I really run this poorly ? Was I not as good as I thought? Was I bad. Doubt it.

Eventually it got to the point where I'd just look at the ceiling and ask god / whomever controls the matrix "Why?" Not manically or raging with tilt...Again...Sort of confused...Confused + disappointed + over it'ness...And when you talk to your ceiling even if it's' "calmly" you know your mind is just not where it should be any longer.

Shortly after I just threw in the towel as a reg / full time mtt grinder. It just felt totally pointless and like a massive waste of time - Like all I was doing everyday was clicking the right buttons - watching results in real time - rinse and repeat with no $ coming in pretty much ever and always being in MU when backed. I was just over it...Didn't want to give up cause It's not my style but not giving up felt like a much bigger leak.

I don't mean to be whining ITT if it comes off that way even tho I probably am a bit but....Idk...Mtt's are basically just lotto tickets you have a bit of control over...And LOL @ expecting to make $ each year playing ON Stars f or so many reasons. I''m actually a 15-20% ish ROI winner on the other sites I played on but never turned a profit on stars even after thousands of games played (Chuck Bass - IFU)

So I have a question...Why do you guys even bother? I'm not even asking with a bitter tone...I just find it very hard to believe anyone is making $ grinding it out in 1000+ fields or even at all really unless you are running (probably wayyyyyy) above EV.

Why do you guys even bother at this point in time?

p.s - The sick thing is I still contemplate giving it another go cuz I'm having a very hard time accepting my results overall...Which I guess answers the question for some.

I said 300+ 500 is prob my biggest or around that.

I'm just saying...What 90% of us are doing (on stars ) is essentially playing the lotto with a pretty small edge and trying to run way over ev.

It's the act of sitting down for 8-15 hours and watching results...Slowly going brain dead =)

Mabe I'm bitter but nah ya'll know It's true. Mid to small stakes tho never been a HS reg.

Most people are not making anything like a half decent years salary playing MTTS. Then again 30K in Eastern Europe goes along way. Im a rec player but yeah I do laugh when I see someone who's played 50K games and made 10k profit.

You're absolutely right Colin. The vast majority of 'professionals' are wasting their time. I've said it before, but if you haven't been beating the daily grind consistently for many years at decent stakes (the odd 200k bink propping up your results doesn't make you a good player), you might as well do something else. The market is over saturated. People who are having regular 300 bi swings are doing something very wrong.

Also, if you're good at poker you shouldn't get backed. There are some exceptions to this (strong long term winners who have fallen on hard times for reasons outside of poker, who have a sample which proves they can win at high stakes). The backing industry is on the whole hugely detrimental to the long term health of the games, and in particular to the horses themselves.

problem always is that the biggest part of your downswing always comes from your highest buy ins. so you can play abi 30, and can easily have a 20k ds, but in reality you have been breaking even/slighly winning at <50$ (which make up like 85-90% of your total games) and then dropped 20k at >50$ (which makes up only 10% of total games) while your abi there is really like 85'ish or something, aka a 250abi swing, which is super standard, yet it feels demolishing bc your overall abi is only 30.

I'm no expert, but I believe the "kelly criterion" has something to say about this.

dont waste your time you have it right. variance makes Grinding is a fools game in 2017. They are all backed/giving away their profits for a reason. Modern online MTT pros are a pathetic version of pre BF heros. More like slaves than ballers

Yeah this. Stables are a cancer on the game and its a disgrace on the poker community the way they have dominated the landscape. Prob just as bad/self defeating as an initiative as HUDs

+1

The funny thing is many people think its actually a brag to be a member of the big stables but its actually quite the opposite.

Time for an open discussion on the effects stables are having perhaps? You never know, the sites may start listening if it gets enough traction. If they truly want the recs to have a more enjoyable experience playing online poker, then killing the stables off should be a priority for them. Everybody except the stable owners and the coaches who they employ would benefit.

is this for real? did it ever occur to you that maybe your results were over such a small sample size that drawing ANY sort of conclusions of your actual skill level and winrate would be just silly?

its like binking the lottery after buying a few tickets and somehow believing your odds are better than everyone elses because your doing something different...your followups in this thread prove that you still think you are immune to terms like sample size and volume.

Any results/stats can be filtered or manipulated to allow the player to believe that he is a winning player and will win if he gets the appropriate amount of luck . Like you said you are a 15-20% winner on other sites but overall loser on stars . Many players will simply choose to believe that their true winrate is 15-20% and they are merely running badly on stars or that the field sizes are too big etc They don't consider the possibility that actually they are 5-10% roi players who are running a spectrum from below EV to above EV on each of the sites they play . People are optimistic when it comes to evaluating how much they should be winning at poker

Not getting at you but this is why people "bother" Because 1) they are in denial/delusional and 2) there is a lot of uncertainty about their true skill level and what that means in terms of expected earnings

and 3) it's gambling and when gambling you hope to win more than you should..

Of course there are a lot of genuine winning players also but the "why bother" probably doesn't apply to them

when I was backed I know that I was playing like 5x the amount of tourneys vs when I played unbacked. So to cut that 50-50 means I made more money.

Ive known lots of people that have way over 20% ROI in like 5 different sites. Then they will have 1 site where they are losing. Does not make them a bad player.
