i think parkert means that giving up half (or 40% whatever) of your total profit is a pretty bad business decision with a 100k roll. imo you should treat poker as a business if its your primary/even secondary income, therefore its embarassing.

he thinks if you dont have balls/mental strength to take swings in order to make more $ in the longrun, poker is probably not the right career.

it might be different if you get backed for lots of big live stuff, but id generally agree with that. stables are there to make money and are businesses that obv profit off their "employees". they wouldnt be there if it was a smart business decision for a player to get backed long term or would only be backing horses short-mid term.

Why doesn't 100k roll guy just get himself STAKED for certain games/packages that are higher ABI than he is accustomed to or comfortable with? Sell pieces of himself at even a modest premium. He could go sell 50% of his $1k online event at some markup or maybe even 80% of his ME WSOP or whatever.

Assuming the 100k is a true "roll" and is relatively liquid cash for gambool, how is being backed with a roll like that ever better than just selling shares up front?

It's quite possible I'm missing something, wouldn't be the first time... but wtf

Maybe that 100k is better used for a different form of poker than MTTs that isnt so high variance, and maybe that person also wants to continue to take shots at high stakes MTTs.

good point

okay so the horse can keep his 100k for cg's or whatever, meanwhile he quasi-freerolls some big mtt's in order to take shots

definitely some benefit to that but if it includes all the lower mtt action as well, including the sunday stuff, it starts looking a bit gross

I don't even think there's a real person who has a $100k roll and is backed. One person mentioned having $100k in the bank and playing backed which is completely different than having a $100k bankroll and playing backed.

Oh, my bad, thought we were talking about $100k in the bank.

What's the difference?

Assuming "money in the bank" = easily accessible/liquid funds

I think someone saying money in the bank thinks about money that has been put away to cover living expenses/insurance/etc.

Ok Mickey, the majority of online mtt grinders are under 30 and have almost no resposibilities, so should play on their own money when they have a 100k.

I'm more than happy to discuss this topic further in a polite way but how so many people just snap put this down as "arrogant" and "braindead" is beyond me.
