Re: biggest mtt downswing?

Ontopic, yes I have had 2 1000ABI+ downswings, but for 1 thing I'm a fish, for another thing I play (too) many tables and as a third reason I'm the most unlucky player of the world.

Then again I think looking at ABI is kinda ******ed

A page later and reading the further discussion, this scares the hell out of me. I'm still in a pretty large hole but similarly to rh I've had countless close calls for big scores (like 8 FT bubbs during September/WCOOP alone with 40-50k+ UT).

Sick thing is I think I've improved tons throughout the past 10 months all for no real reward. Mentally I'm fine, I just keep working on my game/grinding hard. I really think people underestimate the possibilities of variance. I'm equally as likely to lose another 100k over my next 2k games regardless of my last 10 months.

I like to think I am an outlier, but likelihood is I'm just terrible. Any of you bosses want to coach me?

Re: biggest mtt downswing?

I will join the bandwagon, in 2012 I played 2500 mtts (I have full time travelling job, so I consider I've done well enough) at 29$ abi with -27% roi, rather harsh. That means I'm down 675bis + small sample (~150) that I played on lol.fr. I feel like definitely I am sometimes not playing optimally after running bad, losing focus, finishing last 1-2 tournaments of the session on autopilot because there's no point to focus with 2000 left in big 11$ for example, so it could be a bit smaller, but missing big FTs can hurt a lot. If I filter my buyins above >60$ then my graphs look rather amazing. If I don't - to my graph adds 45 degrees line with 30k-40k loss from higher stakes. (which is like 15-20% of my games)

Not the first downswing and not the last one, so far over 5 years I always managed to recover. Last year I ran similary throughout the year then got it all back within last 1,5 months (with 100% roi November and 250% roi December lol) and made a nice profit.

I have plenty of experience so it's important to remember to continue improving and learning at all times, I have watched hundreds of videos, been coached by some, was active in the forums both here and pxf and I sometimes thought I have enough theory to just play - but I was wrong. I could be so much better than 20% roi lifetime or whatever I have if I put more work into it.

And don't play video games or watch youtube videos on the second monitor during the session. And also I'm addicted to this forum too much.

Re: biggest mtt downswing?

Also as mentioned - being and elitist jerk and playing those huge fields on stars exclusively doesn't help neither - I have tried to fix it recently throwing in some lol.fr. I want to get back to 888 challenges and party (withdrew money after some shady news, but I'm willing to get back). iPoker can **** itself as long as they don't introduce sync breaks.

Re: biggest mtt downswing?

variance is a *****! grind hard, improve your game and keep your head up! most underestaminated leak is mindset! if u cant handle it u will always struggle

downswings belong to MTTs like snow to christmas! the important part is how u handle them and not how u cry about them! review your semideepruns, not only your wins! question every play and dont always say"cooler..." "bad beat..." there is a way to get out of these holes! most times its up to yourself

Just wanted to add that I think it shows you have improved a LOT lately and see a huge a difference in your game! Way more control and less spews.

It can come in one game/month that all connects. So many close calls again this month. 5k left to clear my makeup but have biggest month so far without a huge cash.. (~5 major ft (bubbles))

Re: biggest mtt downswing?

this tread scares the **** out of me. i have like 95 abi on ftp and 87 abi on stars yet my biggest downswing is 30K ish.(played only 14k games life time tho) I really have no idea how u guys have 100k+ downswing with 100abi .
So am I running way too good to not yet met a somewhat 'standard' downswing or it's purely due to game selection. fwiw, I dont play turbo/super turbos, not even on sundays and i try to avoid those hard tournaments even i know i might still be +ev in those.almost never touch stuff like 1k monday/super tues/daily 320 6max/daily 100r and only play 1k/2k/5k during ftops/scoop/wcoop etc.
i think it's really quite bad money wise to play say daily 320 6max. u make 60 bucks per game if u have 20% roi in this(which is super high imo) while u can easily acheieve 200% roi in big22 and u make 40bucks per game. So i rly have no idea why this tournament is existed and so many top regs still play it day in and day out.(brag: played it once in 2012 and took 2nd. lmao)

What mickey said sounds about right. + people call it dick/ego measurement to play these games but there is a good edge to be made (from my point of view) and besides that its a very nice mental challenge to try and play with the top players.

Besides winning more $ per game played in a $320 6m with a 20% ROI vs a 200% ROI in a big22, you also increase your future ROI by likely working and improving more on your game then clicking in the big22 where you won't be pushed to improve and think a lot deeper...

I think $30K downswings are pretty standard and I think you never exceed those swings because you game select well and therefor avoid going on big swings (which is smart, especially when you need the money directly or are playing on your own dime with a somewhat limited bankroll).
However, when u would be playing backed, not taking this edge and experience would be a mistake in the long run and stop you from improving faster then you potentially could. But only as long as you can handle the swings mentally. (this last part is very important)
