AIM HACKED

To anyone that has my aim, my accounts been hacked by whoever hacked hattricks old aim. I'm not sure how he did it, he was asking for my email address and I thought it was kind of wierd but didn't see how him having my email address could do anything. Anyway, to anyone that has my aim, block me. Sighhh.

I've never been hacked before and really don't know who to contact. I also don't know how the hacker did it. I'm on a MAC, on a secured network etc. The pw I used is a common pw that I've used for other things too but I'm just going to switch pws everywhere now. All my accounts have rsa's though. Bah, I feel dumb.

If anyone has any advice or help I'd appreciate it.

meh, i didnt realize it was a hacked account. But yea, looking back on the conversation I feel pretty silly. Lol, I thought he was possibly a hacker and even asked him where the first time we met was and he guessed correctly "pca" ha... I know, i know....

And the pw was common with maybe 2 other accounts for non-important things. And the email address i gave him is for mainly non-important stuff other than aim and isn't associated with poker accounts.

Aha, I'm now learning about brute force attacks and stuff... a little too late I suppose.

edit - I think its kinda douchey to say something like "you should feel dumb" without including any helpful information when the main reason I'm posting this is just to make sure no one else gets hacked through my aim. But yea, I obviously made a few careless mistakes - mainly cause I was always invisible on aim and didn't have the same aim name as my online names.

yea, im a dumbass.. have had multiple friends who were hacked and took alot of precautions with poker sites just wasn't as smart with aim ... Can't believe i willingly gave email address, I figured it was kind of public info though. wow aol customer service is lol.

Is it advisable to get a single email address per pokersite (non-gmail e.d.?) which is used exclusively for that site?

I feel I can be more careful with my accounts too, and messages like these reinforce that thought.

The standard practice is to get access to his e-mail account, then figure out the lost password reset on AIM. Usually it is something dumb like mother's maiden name or city of birth or something else easily findable. Which is why you should never give out your e-mail address to randoms and set your lost password reset questions/answers to something that can't be found out.

Sigh, I just thought that people who have made million(s) playing online poker would know that it is not a good idea to give your email address to a random or have the same password on multiple sites. Obviously I didn't know that the guy had hacked your friends AIM account and guessed where you guys met for the first time etc.

Sorry if it came out in a douchey way. I hate haxor and scammer scumbags as much as everyone else and hope you or anyone else did not lose any money because of this incident.

If you have a mac use Adium. DO NOT have a password that works for more than 1 thing (and if you do don't post about it publicly/immediately change those before he tries them all out?). Have seperate email for real-world things and poker. Make sure no one ever knows your poker email. GL.

Already was using adium. Don't have a pw that works for more than 1 thing anymore. And my poker email wasn't involved in this. Poker accounts should be safe. Thanks.
