I suppose I'll go ahead and start this thread...

My 2012 goals:

2012 goals

1. travel more, expand my global network, go places and do things ive never done before. do things that scare the **** out of me and continue to push my personal limits in order to learn more about myself. listen to the things i learn

managed this pretty well . the world is an awesome place. to any of you MTTCers i came across this year, great seeing you!!

2. no matter where i am or what im doing, take time out of everyday for myself. place an emphasis on self-care. this means making sure i eat proper meals, have time for meditation, and some sort of physical activity. spend time outside everyday, even if it's only for a bit.

another success

3. use my excess money and time from poker to continue bettering myself. need to keep a lot of faults buried. continue to learn from mistakes.

a ways to go, but progress

4. talk to and communicate with more people i dont know on a daily basis. i feel so strangely introverted sometimes

comes and goes, but worked out well for the most part. guess the problem boils down to just not around other people on a daily basis...

5. stay connected with family and friends no matter where im at in the world. i lose contact with so many people, and i dont want my friendships to be a casualty of the lifestyle i'm living.

better job than ever, but still needs some work

6. begin to explore other avenues of life, when i graduated last december i told myself that i'd spend 2 years playing poker and then reevaluate. i want to keep my future as open as possible.

it has been 2 years, and despite a downswing, poker is where i see myself for now. i wake up excited every day to play, and fall asleep the night before anxious to grind again. this is for me

7. run a half marathon, jump off waterfalls, skydive, samba in the streets during carnival, dance the summer months away at any festival i can get to

never ran a half marathon. i plateaued around 10 miles (3 different times this yr). plagued by injuries every few months. trying new stretches and such now. not sure if distance running is for me, i have these bands by my kneecaps that get inflamed when i go above the 35mi+ mark, and the only thing that seems to work is staying off them. running more 3-6mi (5-10k) distances now, but doing it on beach and trying to work on my speed vs increasing distance. have a nike fuelband watch so easy to keep my stats and have only had a single 6 day foot injury (first one in 5+ months of barefoot running)

did a very good job of the other stuff

8. continue to work to improve everyday on and off the tables

worked more on my game off the tables than ever. 100+ hours of videos, an entire summer of note taking and color coding, learning a new form of poker, expanding to every site, talking strategy with regs, new HUD, new setup, different mentality, better mindset, better stamina

2012 was the best year of my life. Made me realize that there are so many other (and arguably better ways) to run hot in life than winning at poker. Very grateful for all of the opportunities I have had this year. I started January with my first ever live win at an Aussie Millions side event. Returned to my favorite place in the world:
Spoiler:
Brazil
with great people. I got to go to the Isle of Man, the Stars' HQ. I searched for the doomswitch myself, I know it doesn't exist now. Lived in an Amsterdam hostel for 18 nights and took a break from poker, had a sweeet time. Rented an apartment for SCOOP with all of my best friends. Setup a new home in Rosarito, Mexico big enough for the whole crew. Played the WSOP Main Event. became a mod on 2p2!!! Traveled to play LAPTs in Panama and Peru where I met a good group of people. Got to see some of my good friends hit life-changing scores in SCOOPs, WCOOPs, Majors and LAPTs. Closer to family. Maintained a weight between 145-155lbs all year. Exercised 3-4 days a week all year. no fast food all year. no television all year. no cellphone in 6 months. read 12 books. tried to be there for people more. no RXs. i feel genuinely happy

--------------------------

2013

My 2013 goals will be more based upon poker. I plan to stay put, work hard, study, grind and profit. I am going to put the live poker dreams on hold for now. (In before unforeseen live bink)

1. Clear Makeup

2. be more of a minimalist.

3. Learn a 2nd Language (Portugese) conversationally. I have taken 2 semesters and gone to Brazil 2x. Frustrates me not to be able to converse with my friends more. I have all the Pimsleurs, a bunch of movies with sub-titles, and Duolingo just released the beta for BR Portugese. I speak a little bit of 3 languages, and it's nobody's fault but my own that I'm not proficient in at least one of them.

4. win at least 50k playing HU hypers. right now i've made about 100 buyins playing the 15s...

5. Maintain Multi-Site Grind when playing MTTs

6. work harder AND smarter

7. improve physical fitness

8. be a better friend

9. network, network, network

10. continue to experience, learn, and travel

11. forgot probably my most important one, try to approach both old and new things with more of a beginner's mind approach.

I want to finally feel like I'm getting somewhere.

I'd like to buy myself a place to live so I can stop spewing money on rent.

I don't want a single day to go by where I start playing poker before I take my dog out for a walk.

Improve my poker skills.

Properly train toward an ironman. The running part is so easy but I hate cycling and swimming so need to adjust my attitude to that.

I always do these year end lists and set up manageable goals that I inevitably fall short on. This year I'm doing it differently. I'm setting ludicrously high goals so that even if I fall short another year, there is plenty of room where failure is still success.

[ ] Highest ROI of any reg playing at least 30abi
[ ] Highest ITM of any reg playing at least 30abi
[ ] Play highest volume on Stars of career, 4250 games
[ ] End 2013 playing well enough to be +EV in the Super Tuesday
[ ] Weight 190 pounds or less (from 235)

2013 is gonna be about me letting the past go.

I learned that people fear what nature didn't give them.

I overcame a lot of struggles to escape my adolescent nightmare only to slowly slip into another one after trusting some really horrible, yet influential people with my livelihood.

My quality of life and confidence is beyond soaring since a few anchors were cut loose this past year. I feel like a person again. I realized I'm stronger, better, faster and smarter than the owners of the feet that kept my confidence in the dirt. I realized other people can actually feed their own confidence and ego using you, if you let them.

I'm here today standing tall and proud to say.... I understand.

I don't fault any of you for trying. But, none of you succeeded.

The lesson: The cream never stays at the bottom no matter how many different ways you try to make it.

nice post lipo, your attitude has always impressed me and I'm sure 2013 will bring you more success.

I didn't post in last year's thread as I was pretty much done with poker, and that's not really changed though I do enjoy keeping in touch with the many cool people I've met through this forum and I still like to help out with my mate's staking operation and donk off a few quid in micros occasionally. So I guess I can manage some 2013 goals, some of which are at least semi related to poker!

- Stay fit and healthy. It's a vague objective, but I've improved a lot in the last 12 months in terms of losing weight, getting regular exercise and drinking/smoking less. I go running once a week and get a lot of fresh air these days, whereas when I was grinding MTTs every night I was piling on the pounds and seeing less daylight than the cast of Twilight. I'm determined to keep up the good work. At my age, this is important stuff!

- Get to at least 2 UKIPTs or similar live events. Nottingham and Newcastle were absolutely fantastic last year. Who cares if I'm barely +EV in a £200 FO these days, it's fun.

- Make accounts on sites other than stars, and actually make some money playing poker even if it's only a recreational thing. I cashed out my stars roll in the summer (after stunning the poker world by making $10k in a month thanks to a couple of random degen shots in turbo MTTs), and haven't bothered reloading as there's a good chance my account will be banned one day when a stars support rep reads my FTP file. Playing on stars is dumb for a recreational player anyway, so I ought to motivate myself to take advantage of the deposit bonuses and fishy fields on euro sites. I reckon a $10k profit goal is attainable even with my low stakes/volume/skill.

- Don't sleep with my ex again. I try this resolution every year, and I always fail. Maybe my early January appointment at the GUM clinic will convince me this time.

Whatever happens, I wish you all a happy and prosperous new year <3

2012 was a pretty different year, spent less days playing poker and much more time studying/writing/working on my PhD

Ended up taking 5 months off from online poker between June-November, profited a small amount largely thanks to the return of FTP

Live poker was of course still a disaster, some day I hope to turn that around

2013 will be even less about poker as I try to finish this PhD which I expect to be an absolute ton of work, so as far as goals go, that's my major focus

In terms of poker, hope to enjoy when I play, rather than having it be a chore, and if I could make some money at the same time, that would be a bonus

Beyond that, I don't really set specific goals, beyond enjoy life, try to have as many new and diverse experiences as circumstances will allow and hope that I feel like the year has been worthwhile
