Is it okay to let go of monster hands on the flop? Is it okay to let go of monster hands on the flop?

Say you have AA and raise preflop. Everyone folds to button who calls.

The flop is a seemingly innocent rag board. You bet pot size, button goes all in.

What do you think of this situation? I read the first couple chapters of HoC, and it says small hands = small pots. So does this mean that if someone goes over the top like that, and all you have is an overpair, you should just give it up even if occasionally he might just be bluffing? The only thing he can possibly have that will beat you is a set. Is this a good enough reason to give up your really nice AA on a flop like 3s 10d 7c?

how big are the stacks?
what kind of player is betting?
how many players are there?
etc.

its a very general question. what cc said is important. reads matter also.

one way to look at this situation is do you think he wants you to call or fold.....eg if he has a set perhaps he might try and milk it....

You need more info. Notes on player ,stats and of course stack sizes.

Small stacks its an instant call.

Basically what others are saying. I have note on plyers that only go all in with a set or the nuts

stacks, stacks, stacks?

Assume deep stacks and the player is a sane TAG.

The possibility that he might just be trying to steal the pot with an all-in is threatening though.. any player is capable of doing that.

a sane deepstacked tag is doing this like practically never. im trying to recall the last time a so called tag pushed arr in on me on the flop on a dry flop...and i got nuthin. also there are deepstacks and then there are deepstacks....is this 90BB deep? 150? 250?

i suppose it could be a misclick or a super dooper levelling play but as you are just giving NL a go for the first time (as per your other post in beginners) your time would be better used in working out the situations that happen more often. also not all tags are alike. he could be tagfish or just a guy who knows to play tight postflop but has no idea about postflop or betsizing in general.

ps without a history of this guy doing this before just call and lol at his play when you go to sd.
