Happy_Fish, it's just really good advice that I hope you'll take to make sure you have a comod who knows what they're doing, if only as someone you can bounce questions off.

He was banned for stuff that happened outside of POG, and captain binkles didn't even mention most of that guy's real problems. He was incapable of doing anything without the forum mods getting dragged into it one way or another. And as good as he was at creating problems, he had no ability whatsoever to resolve anything. He was a walking trainwreck.

I asked today to be assigned a date, or at least a tentative one to know when I need to have things ready by. I've got a role sheet and basic stuff sketched out online. I'll PM you with the info and you can look at it if you're sure you can help / don't want to play. I've been bouncing ideas off binkles and it's really helped me get a perspective on the things that should be included to make sure everybody's involved.

Edit: I don't even have skype, so that's down the road a couple steps. I'm not ready for that kind of commitment yet.

At this point I've thought a lot about the game, but I'm sure the players will go off in unexpected directions, and in that case I'll need somebody experienced to help make decisions about how to handle the situations.

i can not mod or play that week, but i can help little bit with pregame stuff

i think putting up sign up thread about 7-10 days before your game starts is pretty reasonable

Maybe like the 26th or so? A week is usually good for signups for 40 players? maybe a little earlier if you want

I'm actually considering designing and modding a game again, mostly because I've had a bunch of very cool ideas for roles. Still trying to decide what angle I'll take w/r/t theme. Will be thoroughly vetted by outside smart guys for potential structural flaws and will have no neutrals able to convert people, obv.

I'm super busy at work through July at least, so this won't be happening for a while, but I'm excited about some of the roles I've come up with and wanted to share that excitement with you, the denizens of this thread.

From what I remember this was really the only issue with your last game. Just take that mechanic out and rerand imo

i obv have immense levels of regret that something I thought was a really cool and nuanced design overall was ruined by one extremely boneheaded aspect

i'm designing the new game to be carnage-heavy without sacrificing the cool puzzle/mechanics aspect of the best mishmashes; we shall see how successful i am if i ever do run it

and i will stay out of wolfchat, because hanging out there is -EV for almost any mod

I think is time for AIDS to make a come back. Will be the best game yet.

I think that's a really bad idea and if this forum had mods, they should discourage you from doing it. It's fun a couple of times but after that you're basically just taking up a slot that someone who will run a game properly needs.

Modding will be more work than you expect. Getting signups as a first time mod is tough, consider designing a small(ish) game and having to turn some people away. I'm not in tune enough to know what number that is.

The effort is intense from night 0 to the end of night 1. Make it past there and it gets a lot easier. Organization and preparation will go far. And lean on that co-mod.

If your first game goes well you'll have no trouble filling a bigger game after that.

As for skype, it's horrible software and I prefer not to let it infect my machine deeply so I use http://portableapps.com. That's a windows package manager that installs to a usb drive (or just a regular local folder) so you can have programs like skype without them getting to do permanent damage.

Thanks for the advice, Chips. I've got a pretty good list of people to lean on when things get crazy. Part of the problem is that I don't know what I don't know, as they say I do have a little experience in dealing with gaming players, so I'm trying to make sure that the effects of actions will be known so the players aren't surprised when something happens. But I'm sure players never play the game the way you think they will
