yeah, on casual mode I tend to do something like:

piano
euros or study

to get the vowels, then re-evaluate from there; often spending 3 clues on narrowing down letters and then try to solve on #4


just recently found out there was hard mode, so it's new to me and I like it better, but it forces me to play differently; my guess distribution is 15% 3 turns, 45% 4 turns, 35% 5 turns, 5% 6 turns...with hard mode my 3 turn % may go up, or maybe this was an outlier

the other way, I never get it in 2 because I'm using as many different letters in the 2nd word as I can; unless my first one hits like 4 letters or something else making it obvious
