My Wed 20th results:



Not a good day for me.

Standard+ was fine

Advanced really confused me and I didn't know the answer was a word even. Got down a really bad rabbit hole assuming there was 1 A in position 3.

Eventually realised there could be A_A and got there. Still don't know what the word means.

Standard I played too quickly and dumb. I'm happy enough until guess 5, but guess 6 was really not likely to be the answer and guess 7 couldn't possibly be the answer.

rough start, P and E locations confirmed with POACH. Looked at I or U. Got lucky that PURGE hit at that point.
I recall I missed using some info in this one but forgot where..



Used GROWL to confirm some spots and got lucky. Though RO by no means confirmed, I stuck with them next word and the F leaned heavy to a FRO_ _ word.



This was tough, as I had a great start with SATED. TRADE ruled out R and confirmed the S was one of the three. THOSE rules out D and places the S. Seemed to come down to T_ AS_ or _ _ ASE, iirc. Abase seemed pretty obscure but after CEASE and BLASE it was all I could think off. Didn't even like BLASE really because I thought words with accents may not be in the word pool, but it took it.

I don't use STARE to start because it is Gabe's example word, but I do in wordle. I think I will go to my Wordle 3 from now on, STARE then one of DOING or PLUMB. It makes sense that E be at the end if you are going to use it in first word.

Why did German take you so long, you had all 5 letters after guess 2

I knew that it was 5 out of the 10 letters, wasn't sure which 5 it was.

A 2k Spanish channel posted a review of word500. But unfortunately the guy went way too quickly entering random guesses and managed to lose the game after getting 131 in round 3.
I fistpump when I get 131 in round 3.

I'm probably better at Spanish word500 than him.

Game 1 was annoying.. I made a false assumption that got me off track....

Happy enough with standard.

Should not have guessed shool for advanced because it was not likely to be the word. Could have probably saved a turn there.

Standard I just didn't think. I just barreled on ahead until I had all 5 letters on the board which was dumb. Should have stopped with the unique letters earlier and just said to myself "4 of these plus 1 unused"

I think I have a strategy that will not lose a game but will also not solve in a low number of moves often. I think I play it safe.

I think we should play some foreign language challenge.

We'll come up with 7 words here for a given language and then it can be a single round shoot out.

Thoughts?

I think Gabe hit on this shortly after we started. His thinking (and others agreed) was that if you had a 122 or 212 or even maybe a 113, that your best play is to try and confirm something (letters and/or letters plus locations) in the next move or two. The game is just too hard to have a 104, 113, 014 off of 15 different letters... You don't have much info and next turn is turn 4.

If I have a 122 or something I will keep 2 or 3 letters from the word that hit, put some but (not all if I hit one) in a different spot, and then add a couple of new letters for a new word. Like in a game earlier when I had STARE 122 and followed with STING. I probably should have gone with an S_ _ _ E word though.... .

I find when you have 122 or something, and then keep one letter in place and then you get a 032 it really helps.

On the other thing, don't know any other languages but would try anything... I might be able to wing a little French..

I just find the possibility that you make wrong assumptions repeating letters too early can lead you down the wrong path.

STARE gives you 122

You go for SALTY next or whatever and get another 122 but done know if it was the original letters or the new ones. And in the meantime you missed the chance to try the new letters.

I'm sure it doesn't work quite like that but that's how it seems to be in my head. I guess it's easier to keep everything straight in my head although it's less efficient my way.

You don't have to speak any foreign language to play my game. We pick the first 7 words in thread and they all go in regardless. Then it's a logical "mystery code puzzle" as we try to find the word.

We can start with French if you want. I'll post 7 words in thread that have a good spread of the letters used and we can go from there.

It is already categorized by Zscaler as "Online and other games" and blocked by my company
I lost a streamer playing word500 to Wordzy, because Wordzy is the same, but allows you to color letters in your guessed words, a feature that was proposed in the betatester thread, but I didn't do it.

I think I will not develop much more (because clearly, this site is not going to develop any traffic of significance), but I like putting in the option to create a custom Word500.

You did great on this. It is a shame there are so many bad upstarts out there.

Must be hard for people to get to the good ones like yours.

I'm quite pleased with my work and I learned a lot.
But I wasn't aware that the market was totally saturated with wordle spinoffs

word500 is the only version I play now.

Used to play wordle, but 1 a day wasn't enough and do I played the wordus app.

Then wordus gamified everything so I quit it and I played wordle and quordle.

I quit wordle when it moved to the NYT because it broke my streak.

I played a bit of quordle and absurdle. I soon quit absurdle when I found out how it actually worked.

I feel like I knew the word list too well from quordle after about 200 reps (800 words) and so it got a lot less fun.

word500 now suits my needs pretty well. 3 English words a day and then foreign language words if I get bored. Not really touching the practice or timed stuff.

Got French advanced in 4 turns today...

Game 3 - This drove me nuts as I thought there was info I just was not computing and should have gotten this sooner..

Seemed to struggle with all games this day. Lots of wrong and veey unlikely guesses because it's all I could think of. Even if it seems like harem was guessed quickly I spent a lot of time between guesses 3 and 4 and 4 and 5.

I play wordle because my wife does, but yeah, Gabe's is the only other daily game I play other than Triplechain.

Gabe's game has the perfect balance of requiring focused thinking/deducing/planning, while still not requiring an unreasonable time commitment. That is, I can always find the time. And, if I am short on time I can just play the hardest level.
