It arose out of a conversation that followed the yoga concert/chant thing that we attended on Thursday (which was fun, in an odd way). I came up with it but she thought it perfect; I get that it's a bit obscure, but doesn't that figure, too?

I cannot tell you how much this tale is warming my heart right now.

No particular update, other than to say that it's even better than before, if that's possible. I can tell that relations with the younger daughter are going to be an issue, but I'm confident that we're on the road to working them out.

I believe I can get atakdevi (yes, that is her) to post here a bit — as I said earlier, she's fascinated by this community that is at once virtual and real, and she seems greatly to appreciate the supportive posts. Whether she'll answer questions, I don't know — that's her decision. But it's possible, and I hope people will want to hear her answers too.

When I started this well I had no idea that it would arrive here, but I'm thrilled that it has.

Thank you again to everyone congratulating me. I know you all, even those saying nothing but positive things, figure there's at least some doubt how things will turn out. Thank you for humoring me a little bit ... you'll see that I'm right, but that's going to play out over a considerable time. So I'm afraid you'll have to deal with the mushy stuff for a while.

I have to admit a small part of me hopes this is all an elaborate level with a conclusion that, whilst I'm not sure what it might be yet, will no doubt be incredible.

Update:

All is well. Because it was clear to each of us that I'd never feel quite at home in the house they're now in, we're moving "back" to the one they left a year ago — roughly speaking, atakdevi couldn't stand it because of bad memories, but with me all of a sudden she imagines us creating a home there together and feels none of the bad feeling that dominated just a couple weeks ago.

Younger daughter is quite happy about that, and OK with the rest of it — she said tonight that it was "weird at first, but not any more".

One of her dogs is now mine. I mean, really mine — she greets me first and sits beside me, not her "mother".

With those and a thousand other things falling perfectly into place, it;'s getting harder and harder to believe things weren't simply intended to be this way.

Important: devi has said that she'll be happy to answer questions too, if anyone has any. (I know, this isn't her well, nor my blog, but I hope no one will object — she knows a ton of stuff, and in any case is a different perspective on recent events.)

So, if anyone has any — I guess just ask. With everything that is going on it is likely to be a few days (at least) before we have time even to think about answering much in the way of detail, but might as well have 'em waiting for her.

Oh, one thing she did want me to post here: The properties and all are not from her husband (well, either of them — married twice). She's happy she's never had to pay alimony, but apparently it was close. And yes, that has implications for us, as I have to make sure she never feels I'm leaning too much on her. That's another major component of what we'll be figuring out in the next little while.

As I told devi, I speak dog. I think she's actually just a bit jealous, because the one that has bonded best was really "her" dog, but I do have the advantage of being male and the dog female — that can help a ton.

But the speaking dog — it works. It was good from the beginning when I used body posture to tell her I was playing with her; it was really cemented when, after I told her to get down off the counter and she didn't immediately, I growled, bared my teeth, and made to put my mouth over her neck. I absolutely was alpha at that point.

Only pics I have of dogs also have her, and I have to think about what I'm going to do in that respect — I do have her permission to post some of her, but right now it still feels weird.
