Not deserving to eat: I was brought up to think I could do anything in the world, and so everything since has been a failure. I seem to be incapable of being comfortable with myself. Also, in a an objective sense i make horrible decisions. I go months without opening my mail because it scares me (though nearly drowning, and being charged by a bear, and rolling a car [on a couple occasions] didn't — go figure). I abandon perefctly good jobs. I get obsessive about behaviors — like playing werewolf — to the exclusion of the rest of the world. And I know these things are horrible to do, and sometimes I punish myself for them.

There's also an element of wanting to learn control. As a kid I used to sit in the snow in my shorts (no shirt) and learn not to shiver. (That "skill" almost killed me some years later when I convinced myself I wasn't freezing to death even tough I was.) I value being able to go without sleep or food, or to work long hours (one summer I averaged 116 hours a week over a six week period). I do hold myself to different standards then reasonable people do or should.

wow, amazing stuff

Why dont you try to be more balanced and make better decisions? Relax and enjoy life, you are intelligent, you can do it. Dont punish yourself like that, just do better next time, remorse should be enough.

Just chill out a bit, eat well, sleep well, smile. Its not bad to let go of control, its necesary.

How is necesary really spelled btw? If I can help you though I doubt I could give any advice you havent already thought yourself, just tell me.

I excel (relative to what I see other people do) at being happy and enjoying life and making decent decisions for myself.

Advice on what you think are the most usual problems for stable couples in their mid-late 20's, as in, they have to face in a relationship.

Do you think travelling as much as you did is worth it? Dont you feel like the world is inside you already sometimes?

When are you meeting TL?

What advice would you give me to improve my villager game at ww?

epic!
Having K: Maybe the best thing; I thin that book is still being written. Raising him is one thing that makes me feel like I'm a good person. It didn't come automatically, either — I believe I have essentially no natural parenting instinct. It's all learned. But over the years I have come to believe that I really am pretty good at it. (certainly could be better,a and I am always trying)

Of course you'll pass, silly. Aspire to more than passing.

I have never had a stable relationship, so I doubt I'm the best one to ask. One thing you may not realize, I will say: people don't change, at least not in the ways you expect. you cannot change for her, nor her for you, so if youa ren't happy with how things are then you need to accept that you won't be happy, or move on. (It's different when you are fully committed, which basically requires marriage — imo in that case you can each reasonably ask the other to change, though never in fundamental ways.)

Another thing: sex gets better as you learn about each other, but if it isn't pretty damned good to start with, it never will be. There's something a bout how people cick sexually that can't be learned.

Re traveling: yes, but no. More on this later.

Re TL: when I somehow get the money to go see her. It is important for the stability of my home situation that i not seem to be profligate in my spending, so this is tricky, but I'll figure out a way.

Your villager game is really pretty good. Is there a particular problem you're concerned about? I'll think more on it, but I know that you're definitely someone I want on my team when I'm village.

I've been involved with some pretty amazing women. It's hard to convey, of course. In terms of careers: doctor, dentist, lawyer, scientist, professor, engineer, top business executive (one of whom bought me a diving vacation with her as our second date)... but also stripper, waitress, actress, everything. More importantly, I've been with people who were brilliant and kind, and in some cases absolutely phenomenal in bed... and lo and behold, I'm not with any of them now. To a large extent this is my fault, as I am nontrivial to deal with, let's say.

TL is not aware of everything she's in for, but Ill make sure she understands. Truth be told, I have hard time entering relationships now because I know how likely I am to mess them up.

(btw, I don't do horrible things to destroy them — I'm just, well, pretty needy when I'm down, while being dialed up to 11 when I'm not. that, it turns out, is too much for almost everyone.)

we've played a few games of ww.. thoughts on my game?

i've always been a sort of underachiever.. but feel that i am pretty intelligent/gifted.. i recently graduated from Temple University, 3.0 gpa BA in economics, what kind of LSAT scores would i have to get to get into law school (not top tier).. also is getting into a non-top tier law school worth it? also what kind of GRE/GMAT scores would i have to get to get into a good grad school? i have always been a pretty good test taker, can you maybe talk about what kind of preparation i would have to put in to get the previously mentioned scores? if you need more info i can try and give it to you as well

Not really. Just the self-flagellation that I described — I like hedonism as much as the next guy (actually, more in some ways — I have an unusually powerful appetite for certain things).

However, most material things do not do too much for me. I have only a few possessions that I really care about:
  • My car (a Honda S2000), which is amazing. I love convertibles — wind in my hair, regardless the weather, is part of driving pleasure to me. And given that I grew up the son of an auto exec, and my first word was car (literally), that's important.
  • My computer, which gives me access to the world I live in a lot of the time where I can think of myself as being more or less popular and successful (hai, POG!). It's a MBP 17.
  • My binoculars. Two pairs, one Swarovski 8x40s and one Canon 15x45 stabilizeds.
  • My coffee maker, a Saeco superautomatic that does everything from grinding the beans to cleaning itself.
  • My albums of pictures from K's first two years. his mother made them for me on birthday. they're amazing, from the moment his head started to emerge (emergency c-section) through... so much.
Everything else, I think I could lose without caring a lot.

Totally before — I quit when I went to law school, because i was nt good enough to keep winning while playing irregularly, and being a 1L takes a fair amount of time. I learned at Garden City (Bay 101 opened after I started), with occasional trips to LA for the Commerce or the Bike. My best game was 40-80 and to a lesser extent 20-40, neither of which was commonly spread in the bay area. (I was worse at odd-chip games.)

I played every day, five or six hours a day (after which I'd get tired). And I really liked it, even though objectively I think it's miserable. Some days I would focus the whole time; others I'd be chatty and friendly. I was never once intentionally mean at the table. I've also never had a drink while playing poker for serious money, ever. (Bipolars very pften have problems with alcohol and/or drugs; I seem for whatever reason to be completely unaffected by this: I have no tendency to get addicted to chemicals [other than my caffeine].)

Tomorrow I'll tell how I started, which I think is slightly amusing, but I'm slowing down now, sorry.

a nice assortment for you here I think.

What do you think of jury nullification?

How do you feel about people using randomized/balanced strategies in werewolf - examples: not looking at role pms (or wolf teammate list) for some time, randomizing NKs?

You said you were in all US states/Canadian provinces - what did you do in Newfoundland & Labrador? What did you think of it?

Do you have any favourite works of fiction (book/tv/movie etc.)?

If your well thread died after some time, and it was bumped say six months later (with you still here), would you reply?

what keeps you from making the decisions you know are good, or... from not making the ones you know are bad?

wrt my village game, just in case you had some insight to offer

in spain passing and doing super good are almost equivalent, I just need the degree. I studied like 14 hours today, nothing compared to your 18 hours average but yeah, if I pass I'm golden. (2 left in the degree now).

what sport achievements of your own are you most proud of ? Any cool football story?

Hi atak.

Who is your favorite pogger to play WW with?

If you are randed wolf in a game where Soah is villager is your first instinct to nk him n1 or to try to level him?

Who is your favorite comic superhero?

Yes or no. Dark Knight was the second best movie ever behind Shawshank Redemption.

If you turned on your TV right now what channel would it be on?

What do you think of my WW game. Anything you have noticed that I should fix?

I'd never call it without consulting a reference, and maybe not even then, because it is (I think) an Empidonax flycatcher, one of the toughest genera to ID. the thickening in the eyerng behind the eye suggests Western (Cordilleran or Pacific Slope, ID by range) flycatcher, but the shape of that ring looks wrong. The bill is the wrong color for least, I think the eyering is too narrow for alder and willow, so that leaves yellow-bellied and acadian (plus some western ones I don't know as well, such as Hammond's).

I'm going with Acadian flycatcher, but with little confidence, and some frustration because my book is sitting about four feet away.

I need to think more about your ww game, and maybe look at some things. At least some of the time you're low profile enough that I don't have strong impressions — also, play in a game like Lost needs some translation because of the non-vanilla aspect.

Tell me: what do you think your best village game was? Your worst?

Re LSAT and law schools: I need to know your aspirations in more detail. Your GPA will almost certainly keep you out of T14, but beyond that the calculus is harder.

GMAT: If you're in or just out of college, don't do it. Good business schools want people with some experience first. Also, business shool teaches you nothing, absolutely nothing, that you can't quickly pick up on your own (and the econ they teach there will drive you crazy), so it's just a paper, a cost/benefit calculation if you will. 100% about the money. (A few b schools are otherwise, but they're rare.)

tell me more about your situation of you want. this is what I did for years.

Music: god, it''s been so long since I thought or cared about it. Off the top of my head, Oingo Boingo's Boin-Go album (I think it's called), Peter Gabriel's Shaking the Tree (compilation, so cheating I suppose), Adam Ant's — actually, I forget which one...and there are quite a few others that I do really love listening to (but don't any more). My genre is 80s alternative rock, so when I'm in the car I just turn Sirius to whatever channel that is and don't think about it.

i'll think about the aspirations stuff a bit and get back to this thread later

Jury nullification is bull**** in a democracy — there are far better ways to change unjust laws. Unfortunately these days (it was different 20or 30 years ago) judges often have very little flexibility in sentencing so injustices are done... but the idea that a jury should feel good about ignoring the law strikes at the heart of the criminal judicial system.

Of course, when I actually and a chance at sitting on a jury (and did make it) I had to be slightly less dogmatic about that.

Newfoundland (and Labrador, briefly — I took the ferry across the Belle Isle Strait) was one of my most fun trips — it was a birthday present to myself, and a good one. I took the Port aux Basque (I think) ferry over, then drove up the west coast. Climbed Gross Morne, saw many, many moose and caribou, found my first and only rock ptarmigan, had cod tongues (awesome food, not duplicated anywhere) with a cool woman from Scotland (!) whom I'd met on the mountain, went up to L'Anse aux Meadow (one of the most desolate looking places I've ever seen — the worst would be Whitefish Point, Michigan in January, though), and then crossed the Belle Isle, netting all six Atlantic alcids in a single day (extremely hard to do).

Along the way, I saw an economy that was still reeling from the collapse of the fishery, and people who seemed warm and friendly (in a cold and gruff way, if that makes sense) and whom I liked very much.

Fiction: a few, but I'm not really a fiction guy. Give me a bit on that one.

I'd definitely respond. I love helping, answering questions... and feeling important.

Well, the vote for least is wrong, else the lower mandible would be orangish.

It would have helped to know it was in the west, and I might have gotten it by process of elimination, but in many case, including this one, the proper ID is Empidonax sp.
