I think the R&R HOF is a bit of a joke but I am looking for songs by bands that have been snubbed by HOF. You can base your opinion on their worthiness based on influence, popularity or whatever you want. They have to have a body of work of some gravitas not a one hit wonder. If they are currently ineligible for HOF due to their longevity that is fine. It can be a band that you think is worthy even if Pitchfork or Consequence of Sound disagrees.
I was a child of the 80's and my musical tastes lean to that decade. Two of my favorite bands are the The Cure and Radiohead that both got in this week. Other bands that are in already that I listen to frequently include:
The Ramones, REM, Beastie Boys, Nirvana and Bowie.
I would say most of my favorite music has been neglected in terms of acceptance, etc. I like what was or is currently classified as College Rock, Alternative, Post Punk, Indie, etc.
Things I don't really like:
Hard rock/heavy Metal, Country, Pop, Blues. I can appreciate that Iron Maiden, for example, was hugely influential and probably should be in but I'm not really interested in their music.
If you pick a big name please don't pick their biggest hit. Dig a little.
For example, I think The Smiths are probably one of the biggest snubs if that helps (I've heard everything they have done so you may not want to go that route). But if you did pick them I would not use "How Soon Is Now" as the selection.
Clear as mud?
